1990 GSR?? help please

Hey guys, I am looking to buy a G2 integra…maybe you can help me out a little bit. I found this ad:

1990 ACURA INTEGRA GS-R, 4 cyl., 5 speed, sunroof, music system, 5,900k miles, one owner car, runs and looks good, must see, Frankenstein Motor, Acura set for turbo

now i know there was no GSR in 1990 (right?) so i taked to the guy and he said its an LS bottom block with a 1997 GSR head ported and polished

  • type R pistons
  • DC headers
  • lowered
  • short shifter
  • vtec controller
  • compression ratio 10:1
  • 15" GSR wheels
  • new tires

This all sounds good but (besides receipts) is there any way i can verify all the parts? like how do i know if its a '97 GSR head, if the wheels are real etc… any tips on what I should look for? and things to watch out for on a performance car besides the usual used car stuff

also how much would all these extra’s add to the price of the car? (i am looking to get a stock car and do all the mods myself, but this one came along so maybe its a good $deal$)

thanks guys,
sesame_boy

I’m pretty sure our GS-R’s only came 92-93

The headers should be simple. It should have the DC logo on one of the manifold pipes. For Compression ratio, get a compression gauge and do a compression test. 10:1 should yield 200psi. BTW, that compression ratio is very low…especially with ITR pistons. Are you sure he said 10:1 not 11:1?

Some questions for you:

  • What kind of short shifter?
  • What kind of springs?
  • What kind of shocks?

As for the pistons, you’ll have to take the block apart in order to tell…sorry.

Oz

personally i wouldn’t buy a car that was that modded, especially since its an ls/vtec engine. There is no real way of knowing if that engine was built properly, and how long it will last.

IMO, buy your car stock, then mod it yourself.

ok…right above the headers, on the cylinder head…there are numbers…if the head is a 97 then the head number would say 96…it will be a little rotated…(not upright)…just look and you will see it…and the intake manifold sould be the dual stage one. if it is not…look to see if it is the skunk2 manifold…and if that is not true, it is not a GSR head.

later…

i wouldnt by buy it…a car that moded has definetly ben driven hard…

the gsr came out 92-93 not 90- 91

ok…it all depends on what you want and what u have to spend…

honestly…i wouldn’t by a LS/VTEC engine…only from a company where i have a warranty…

if u want something fast. and you like the sound of the LS/VTEC buy it and rip the head off the motor and see what pistons it has…and while u at it just drop in some CTR pistons…or JE high compression…

if you just rather to have something to drive now and dont have to worry if it would blow up in your face…

leave it alone…and go and look for a stock gsr or ls…and mod it yourself…

peace

I bet the compression is 10.0:1. The ad states that it is an “Acura set for turbo.”

Thanks guys

Thanks for all your advice…I am going to check out the car sometime this week…i’ll let you know what happens
