90-91' Tail Lights

Right now, Im clearing out the moisture from my tail lights. Its a b**ch to clear. I even used a straw with a vacuum. They’ve been indoors for 7 hrs, and theres still moisture in them.
I tried to separate the lens from the housing, unsuccessful :(.
There’s no way you can take out the lens. If you have succeded, then you probably broke parts of it. Just like the JDM headlamps.
NEway, Ive decided to vacuum as much as I can, and use silicone liquid gasket to seal everything.

When you guys got rid of the moisture in your tail lights, did you take out the moisture, then put the gasket? Or did you put the gasket , and the moisture went away?
I am afraid the moisture thats in there now will stay, after ive sealed everything up.

Btw, In the clear lens of the 90-91’ Tail Lights, I notice there are lateral strips. Could they be defrosting wires? They look good.

take the bulbs out, lay the lights upside down (with the openings for the bulbs facing up), then use a hairdryer to heat up the lights. By warming the lights you should be able to evaporate a good deal of the water and have it exit the light as water vapor through the holes where the bulbs plug in.

it doesn’t matter whether you seal them first, or get the water out first (except the sealant might work better if there is absolutely no water in them). The water will be mostly exiting through the holes that the bulbs plug into, so you can seal the other seams without stopping the water from being able to leave.

but if you don’t get all the water out, they are going to fog up and condense again.

as for the strips, no they are not defroster lines. I’m not sure why they are there, but i hate them. Those little red lines are what make the 90-91 tails not look good–if they weren’t there then they would look almost like clear tails with the bottom painted red. I’m planning on taking my lights apart and clearing out those red lines.

thanks for replying

lol, man theyre badass! If you clear those out man, it wont look as good. You know how there are different patterns (ridges) on the plastic for diffusing light from the different bulbs. The strips visually hide some of that out. If you clear them, the different patterns are gonna show.

well, i’m still gonna clear them. the outcome is the same as clearing the 92-93 lights, and i like that look. IMO the red lines ruin the lights because it doesn’t look as clear as it should on top.

but i’m buying a spare lense to practice on, so i’ll see how it looks.

BTW: clearing 90-91s does NOT look the same as clearing 92-93s. The outer tail lens is different and the inside is different too.

get some 92-93 tails to clear, and keep your 91s just in case. IMO

92 GSR: yeah, i know they are different. Everyone told me they were the same, so i bought a spare lense to practice on. When it had been cleared out I posted pics to prove to everyone that they are in fact different than the 92-93’s. That post is in the archive section now just in case you wanted to check it out.
