A/C switch only works on 4

Hey I have a 90 gs and my A/C switch where I have the speeds 1 through 4 only works on 4. I got a used switch from a junk yard and I still have the same problem, and I tried cleaning the contacts and connectors on both switches with contact cleaner and I still have the same problem. Is this a common problem where both of the switches could be bad, or do yall think it might have something to do with the wireing? Well if anyone has any ideas or solutions please let me know. Thanks -michael

Please try to do a :search: This question is on the board every few days. Replace the coil behind the glovebox on the top of the blower motor housing. It has two screws and a cream plug with blue wires.

blower motor resistor , order one up

hey thanks im going to order that part tommrow, sorry for not searching to well im pretty new here:D

Mine’s doing the same thing but, it only works on 3+4 speeds. could the resistor be doing this? I thought that if the resistor was shot, that the blower would only work on the max speed? Could anyone shed some light on this?

Also, I couldn’t find where the blower motor resistor is located in the car (in older threads)

There are 3 resistors in the pack. Each one works with the others. When you have it on setting 1 (low), all 3 resistors are used, when you have it on setting 2, then 2 resistors are used, and when you have it on setting 3, 1 resistor is used, and when you have it on high, no resistors are used. So you see if resistor number 1 and 2 went out and 3 was still good, then you would just have high and next to high. And if the third resistor was no good and the other two were, you would still get nothing except for high since the current always travels through the third resistor. You can fix this for 5 bucks if you remove the pack and go to radioshack and buy 3 half ohm resistors and solder them up. I did it about a month ago and its still working like a champ. check out the pic on this thread.

In this thread : “http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthre…&threadid=58253” , I have a couple questions :

  1. Are the resistors in the A/C Switch in the dash, or are they in/on the blower motor?
  2. People were telling me to “order one up”, when I asked about resistors, I thought there were 3 resistors? And you only replaced the ones that were damaged/fried?!? And when you order resistors from Acura, do they come in packs of 3 or can you order which ever is damaged? I’m confused.

Thanks!

You have to remove the glove box to get to the resistors. It is a piece the has 3 resistors on it. You can buy the whole piece from acura for about 30 bucks and it’ll come with a new plastic piece and resistors. But what I did was just removed all the old resistors and went to radio shack and got some and soldered it onto the old plastic piece. But if you don’t want to deal with all the trouble you can just go to the dealer and tell them you need that resistor pack for the A/C. they should know what you mean. The piece is in the top part of the blower housing and is held in by 2 screws. It has a 4 wire harness attached to it. You can’t miss it if you take out the glove box.

Thanks!
