Advice for Project

Hey guys, this weekend I plan on replacing my valve stem seals. I don’t have much experience working on engines, but then again I’m no fool. LOL. Anyway, I’ve got the Haynes manual and this club as a reference. As far as tools go, I can rent an in-car valve spring compressor from Autozone, I know I have to pump air into the cylinders. How would you do that? Besides these, what other tools might I need besides basic bolts and wrenches. Any other advice such as TDC and head removal is greatly appreciated. Thanx

I find using the rope method works realy well! Good time to plan replacing other things like: timing belt, spark plugs, etc…

Make sure u plug all the oil drain holes with a rag or else u could be looking at a bigger job the u expected.

Oh yah, some beer always helps…:stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck!!!

That it does! Aurora is it?? Not far from here at all. If you ever run low on beer and feel like lending a hand, I could use a good mech. to help troubleshoot a thing or two that have been making me nutZ! If you have a digital timing gun but need an oscope, I’ve got your back.

We should round up some problems and solutions and wash them both down with some bottles.

If you want to set something up, holler.

Andrew.

yeah, thanx for the advice. Anyone know if I have to do the following:

  1. Disable the fuel system
  2. Remove timing belt and sprockets
  3. Pump air into the cylinders (and how would I do this)

I think you should just take the whole head off. What ever you do, DO NOT over torque the cam shaft cap bolts.

Try the rope method… much easier and faster.
You don’t have to worry about TDC stuff. Take a look in your manual how to: replace seals/camshafts?
Good luck…

Neex sounds good!

Too cold right now, later in spring/summer!

I will give u holler!!!

Cheers,

Phil
