Car started right up, then as i tested it and acceled the Police radar i have goes nuts after i give it some acceleration…the LASER mode of it goes off, then as i drive slow and normal its fine, then i punch the gas and then its like going nuts beeping and shyt, whats the deal;?

i made sure it was pluged in properly, it was…it did it right after the cap and rotor, how is this true?

Check for cracked spark plug wires or another defective distributor cap. EMI is causing your detector to go nuts.

Lol, but what is EMI? plus i used a magnetic screw driver briefly on the distributor for the the screw on the rotor cuz i kept losing them, but i dont think a magnetic driver could have screwed it up like using one on a computer, thanks

M- Magnetic

No, the magnet couldn’t have caused the problem. Did you use an OEM distributor cap? I’ve heard of poor quality distributor caps causing this problem. Did you replace the rubber seal between your distributor cap and the distributor housing? All of thes could cause EMI. Best of luck.

dan, hey im at school, but i did use an autozone brand cap and rotor, ill replace both today, yes i did replace the rubber seal :O), plus today i am cutting the strut towers for more susp clearence, fun times…ill kepp u posted on the EMI, thanks soo much

ill prob replace the cap and rotor for the same brand, just new ones, thanks

Dan, could the EMI also be caused by a poor made or quality rotor also? or just the cap? how much are OEM dist caps? maybe ill return it and try else where
?

I got my cap and rotot from the dealer for about 30 bucks Canadian. I figure for abit more you get something you know will work nicely.

And the whole tune up for about $100(CDN, 4plugs, wires, oil filter) but I didn’t pick up a fuel filter.

The after market rotor should be fine, but I always recommend using OEM cap and rotor with NGK spark plugs. EMI is usually caused due to a leaky distributor cap (basically letting some spark out) or cracked spark plugs or plug wires. Best of luck and let me know what you find.

Update, i returned the Wells brand cap and repalced it with another Wells cap, same prob, didnt go away…should i just get a OEM cap? thanks

also, my window was sprayed with the brake dust wheel cleaner, it left hardcore spots eveywhere, i dont know how to get them off, i used windex, comet, soft scrub, a bleach compound. AHH

thanks guys

Sorry, I don’t have any cam caps for any VTEC heads.

And on a side note, I’m a bit insulted. Lately it seems if someone posts anything that has my name in it and it’s positive, they are sucking up to me. I’m not some god like figure that has a following of poeple (a cult if you will). I’m just an ordinary guy with a lot of car knowledge and happens to suffer from “nice guy syndrome”. If anything, I think notecLS saw that I answered your question, and was frustrated that you were asking again. Sorry, it’s just that anytime someone uses my name and the term “sucking up”, I get a little irritated.
