if i were you, i’d get the whole swap…unless you wanted a certain ECU or tranny or something. but finding a tranny is kinda hard… just get the long block and tranny, you can find them for about 1000 bucks, and get an ECU for maybe like 200-300 bucks… (pr3/pwo unless you have a 92-93 integra)
to answer you question, i got my engine off a guy on the parts trader.com … its a good resourse, just be careful on who you deal with, there can be some wack ass people out there that are there just to steal your money. i got my tranny off another guy, and i got my ECU and vtec controller off the guy who i got my engine off of’s friend. hahaha, well good luck man, i hope everything goes well
I ordered my b16a package from www.nippon-motors.com
I got the ECU/engine/tranny and paid a lil’ over $1300 shipped to my house. The engine came with a start up warranty. I used my existing wiring harness and axles from my integra.
My integra is a 1991.
What year is your car? If its a 1992 - 1993 you’ll need a different tranny.
did nippon send you an intake manifold?distributer? basically everything needed for the swap?
thanks
My motor came with the intake and exhaust (4-2-1) manifold. Distributor, throttle body, alternator, starter, A/C bracket (no compressor), 5 spd tranny, ECU with the plugs (wires cut 3" off plugs), all the wires on the motor (wiring harness was cut at the firewall) and limited 3 month warranty. Everything you would need for the swap.
The only thing that was messed up was the knock sensor. Supposedly that happens a lot during shipment. Cost $130 to replace from Honda.
I didn’t get the axles b/c my Integra axles were new and the b18a axles fit the b16a motor. You won’t need the wiring harness from the b16a so you can save money by using the old wiring harness from the b18a. You’ll need to replace the timing belt and water pump while the b16a motor is out of the car. I would also recommend replacing all the motor mounts.
Hope this helps.
Listen to red_b16a. He’s right about getting new things to be safe. You may not need to get some of those things to save you some cash if they look good from just looking at it. With my swap, all those components were in excellent condition and all I did was buy new spark plugs, oil, and oil filter. It’s just a convience to change all those things while the engine is out.
I bought mine from an aquaintance of mine that gave me the best engine he had at the best deal ($750 + S&H w/o ECU). As far as the engine goes in the car, I think it kicks some @$$. I have ITR cams in mine with the Iceman CAI and it packs some punch all the way up to 8k. On stock valve springs, you don’t want to rev any higher
The gearing, revs, and shifting make everybit of driving enjoyable. Don’t forget the 5k (on my car) VTEC x-over ![]()
thanks for all the info. i love this club. im gunna go with nippon motors hope it all goes smoothly.
thanks again
dino
check the wires also before you put it in. my motor had water in the spark plug wells from the boat ride overseas so the ends of the wires were all corroded. just something to look out for. I paid 1000 for my B16 and tranny. I got mine from keith at www.vtechsports.com I guess they get theirs through the same place that hasport get’s their engines. I don’t remember the name of the company though but every engine that i have seen that they got hass been real clean and really low miles. They have one right now that is marked 16,300 kilometers.
Nippon sells lots of swaps but the last 2 times I’ve gotten motors from there (out of a total of 3), they’ve sent me some fugged up motors. We tore them apart and there was so much carbon deposit on the pistons, and then the head (after taking the valve cover off) was so bronze looking, we spent more time on it cleaning the motor than we would have spent looking for another one. Eitherway, that’s my experience with them (this was also 2 years ago too). Now I just get them directly from a Japanese importer, but lately the prices of B16A swaps have gone up… used to be $700 for a complete swap, now it’s like $1050 for a complete swap. I was going to pick up a swap and rebuild it with CTR pistons and throw it into my 91 Integra, but I might just wait until next Spring to see if the price drops a few hundred bucks (that alone will pay for my pistons
)

uh…no you won’t.
you’ll need a different ECU…if you have a 90-91 you need either a pw0 or pr3 ecu. they’re both non-obd, like your car (white plugs). if you have a 92-93, you’ll need an obd-I vtec ecu, either a p28, p30, p61 (92-93 GSR), or p72 (94-95 GSR). if you get a p72 MAKE SURE IT’S FROM EITHER 1994 OR 1995. if it’s from a newer car ('96-01) it will NOT work.
but all 90-93 tegs have cable transmissions. so you don’t need a different tranny.
i brought my b16a from www.soko.com for $900. it came with motor/trany/ecu.
only 900? thats a good deal
That’s how much I got mine. I didn’t need the ECU so it was $750 instead but if it did, it would’ve been $900 all together.
DAMNNNN, i spent like 1400… but i have cool ECU and vtec controller
I got mine from b17a.com… ehhhh…Motor was super clean when we took it apart i must say. I paid a lil over $2000 with shipping but i got dc header and CM stage 3 clutch too. HOWEVER the ecu was fugged up… couldnt use it… knock sensor smashed(common) Distributor bad. 2 and 1/2 months later the tranny went. And since the time of the swap ive been through 6 distributors. My b16 experience hasnt been fun but very expensive. As of the other day I just got dropped for towing from my insurance due to my teg always breaking down:( Hope you have better luck than i have
How fast is a b16 in a teg.
I know it makes 20 more ponies than my teg. i have a 92 teg.
I mean to say, what kind of cars do you guys have beaten out there, or can hang with, i was going to swap my ls for a SIR motor, but than i realized that if i do that in a civic and sell my car i would be a lot more faster. Ofcourse i would need additional stuff like axles, and motor mounts, ects.
I’m still thinking to swap my LS for a SIR motor, but than our integras, are too heavy too.
not as heavy as the U.S. (think '99) Civic Si’s that came with b16’s. they move. granted not ferrari-beating fast, but they move.
Right now, I’m torn between a LS/Vtec or a straight b16a swap. I want mad power and torque, but i want a reliable and relaitivle good motor and car. WHAT SHOULD I DO??? Hybird or straight swap???
I read most of the forums about both engines, I like to race ( on track or strip) but i want to be able to go from Lousiana to Alabama with out breaking down to a rod or something else.
im looking at geting mine from www.hondamotorsonline.com $900 w/ 25k
i got mine for $1000 (motor/tranny/ecu) from a local shop.
