Almost caused an accident due to a problem with my TEG!

It has to do with the gas pedal, I was trying to make a left turn at the light and I had to yield to thru traffic before turning so I tried to slam on the gas to beat a truck and my car began hesitating & barely moved fast enough until it jerked forward just missing a head on collision! Any reason why my engine is hesitating?? Its not my 02 since I replaced it this weekend and the problem had been recurring before & after that. The fuel injectors/plugs are clean too! Whats up?!?

it was jerky or just linear hesitation? what kind of intake do you have on your car? when was the last time you replaced the cap and rotor, plugs, or plug wires?

It’s distributor related, most likely the coil.

hey brian sorry to hear about your car! if you want i can take a look at it for you on saturday! btw you going to that mini meet marco is seting up!

Sorry guyz forgot to mention that…just doing a process of elimination to pinpoint what else it could be.
There’s more to the distributor than just the cap and rotor. I’m still sticking with my “ignition coil” guess, unless you’ve already replaced it. Find a DMM and go to work on testing the coil.

Thanx 4 the advice, Ill look into it. Could it possibly be exhaust related? I think that I have a leak somewhere on the downpipe near the connector to my header that might be causing it as well but am not sure.

sort of similar

true story… my ignition coil went this weekend. before the coil went, the car was hesitating a lot over bumpy intersections… under near-full throttle the car would jerk A LOT. I figured it was the O2 sensor and was going to get to it when my car up and died.

Since getting the car back i’ve noticed that it’s a lot more sure-footed in all situations, including rough/uneven pavement and sudden jabs at the gas pedal.

also, in regards to a gas leak - the lack of proper backpreassure will result in a loss of power, but it will be a constant loss in 99% of cases, and generally won’t contribute to the situation you’ve described.

robi

it’s more than like ly the ignition but check the cimple stuff first- spark plug wired, spark plugs, excessive dust in rotor cap- I always check the stuff that is cheap to replace first, and go from there- and this method usually serves me and most people well. good luck.

when my coil died there were no signs…

try checking your pcv valve. when i broke mine the car’s idle lunged up and down

hey, spekaing of coil
i have replace my ignitor and all the goods, but anyway, besides the coil. ON a hot day like yesterday in wilmington DE, my car would not start, it just turned and turned… my ac wouldnt even get cold. then i waited 5 min, etc. it finally started. then ac became cold, what does the heat mess up, people talked about this before but iforgot. oh yeah, on the first start, it started but died.

thanks

Tegrags: I had a similar problem also yesterday, hot day, car refused to start. waited a couple minutes(with the windows open) and it started fine. Most would say it’s the Main Fuel Relay, but i’m also suspecting the ignitor since my coil is brand new.

hmm… i read in the haynes(shitass manual) love your helms. anyway… for hot starts, it could be fuel pump…its cool mine works, if u hear a hiss when u turn the key, it works!, battery corroded, ar vacuume leak. but people have been saying
the main fuel relay. that could be right. id have to replace that then, also i hav ea new ignitor, its not it.

thanks… it could have been coil or main fuel relay…

thanks

Trust me its the relay, the older tegs for some reason have a problem with these (proly cuz they are ten years or older in most cases) But when it wont start try hitting the relay (under drivers side dash its brown and black) fairly hard and if it starts up fine then theres your culprete ive replaced dozens of these things at my shop…
