Alternator Belt Tension

Does anyone know where the belt tenioner is for the alternator Belt? One of the alternator mounting bolt is in a slot hole. I suspect this the one but I am not sure.
Also any tips on how to tightening the belt would be appreciated.

Maybe this will help?

If you are near the GTA, maybe we can compare notes??

Andrew.

There is no tensioner. You adjust the tension by pushing back the alternator until the belt is tight. A good method is to use some sort of long tool to push back on the alternator with one hand, and tighten the adjusting nut in the other hand.

Thanks a lot folks… I will give it a try.

Neex, I will be in the TO area during Xmas. If I need to compare something I will let you know.
I live in Windsor.

I oughta get a belt tension gauge. I think my alternator belt is slipping at high rpms and it’s causing a loud annoying whistling sound.
Brinks is right. the best way is to use a long tool (screwdriver or lug wrench) and brace it against the engine to pry the alternator back and tighten the belt.

use a crow bar =O) there’s a perfect place to lever it on too.

should be able to twist belt 1/4 turn after tightening
