Alternator Upgrade?

I do this for honda’s all the time. First grab some true 1/0ga ofc wire. Update your grounds. Engine to frame, trans to frame and battery to frame. Make sure you are running the proper size wire for the amperage that amp is fused at. At 20’ a true 4 gauge ofc wire is required for 80a of current. This should cure your dimming issues. Provided you changed the battery out for the oem equivalent size.

battery is BRAND NEW from advance because my odyssey isn’t winter savvy…go figure. but i did some more research and read up about teh grounds, i’m definitely doing this. thanks CS

I has a discussion with the guy who does my stereo work for me on this very subject… Capacitors are mostly used when you are running more than 1 amp & are not the correct solution to lights dimming. a bigger alternator will help, but the proper solution is to run a second battery ( again this is from a guy who wires competition systems) and make sure you are using good gauge wiring for grounds.

thanks man…i’m planning to run at least 2 batteries in teh future, but if i can eliminate/lessen teh dimming while running what i have i’ll be more than satisfied for now. any ideas on alternator upgrades? something reputable

IDK about upgrades myself… I’d look at places like summit racing or jegs to see what they might have… parts stores only carry OEM spec alternators which only put out 65 amps…

I’d steer clear of ebay parts… they can be hit or miss allthough you can find 130+ amp alternators on there as well…

just buy a high amp altenator on ebay from a seller on there that does accept returns, and a seller who has awesome feedback, thats how ive always shopped ebay and never had an issue and in the last 6 months my ebay account says ive purchased 131 things

The DB2 has a higher amp alternator than the standard DA’s do. It’s only like 10A more, but still.

Going to be expensive. Dc alt, Ohio generator, mechman, tenney, iraggi. These are all reputable alternator build companies. But it’ll be more than a waste of money. Just find a local starter/alternator shop and ask them to build you a gm small case alternator that does 100a idle. Only have to hook up the positive cable to the top and leave the harness unplugged. Da alts are 80a max. Meaning you aren’t getting 80a until you hit 2000rpm+. The 100a alt will be more than plenty. Or you could give them your alt and tell them to build it to 100a idle, that’ll work too.

you know with all that extra power hese going to.end up burning through batteries for overcharging them when the system is off.
just do what I did. buy a double din delete plate from icbmotorsports.com and call it a day.
if I want to listen to bbb basss meckanics music then I pop on my head phones at home.

Not true. Total false information. What the alternator does is supply current that the car demands. If there’s not a demand for the high output then it won’t put it out. I’ve had 2 batteries with 200a idle alt and never fried a battery due to overcharging. I’m doing 5 now with a 180a idle in my db1.

sounds great, but unfortunately i dont htink i have any of these kinds of shops around here :frowning: i’ll look at those vendors you mentioned though, but i’ll do the ground wire upgrade first, then replace the blown 10 -___- lol

Something like Carolina alternator & starter or genes alternator & starter in Greenville, SC is what I’m talking about. Souls have something close to you.

i think that’s about 4 hrs out, but i’ll def look for them. thanks man
