My antenna is broken, the metal piece isn’t bent or anything it just doesn’t go up or down. I can get a new antenna but how do I take the old one off?
Your car has some problems, huh? Or did you just get it? blackteg has a copy of the Helms manual online, I would check it out if I were you, might help you with some of your problems.
Removing the antennae is cake. There are 2 10mm’s on the inside behind the side panel. Remove those and unplug the antennae, and unplug the powerlead. Now all you have to remove is the ring on the outside. There is a special tool Im told, but I use a flathead screwdriver and my hand. BUT, be careful. Its really easy to scrtach the paint that way. After you break that loose and unscrew it, the antennae will drop into the trunk. HTH
I can get you a replacement antenna for pretty cheap. And there are like two screws that hold it in . Pretty simple to take out. Email me if u want a new new power antenna.
If the motor still spins when you turn the radio on and off it is just the mast that needs to be replaced. You need the special tool to get the chrone nut off the outside fitting. AH motors sells the tool for $15.00. After the nut is removed you should be able to pull out the broken mast. Then remove the rear plastic hatch panels ( speaker cover first!). when you have access to the antenna disconnect the wite harness and antenna lead then remove the 2 10 MM nuts and push in on the bolts that you just removed the nuts from. The antenna assy should fall in to the wheel-well. pull the antenna assy out of the car. Remove the 2 phillips screws on the round metal section. Remove the broken plastic mast shaft from inside and put it back together. Reinstall the antenna assy and remember to push the drain tube through the drain hole. With the chrome nut off push the plastic mast shaft down to the motor. Have someone turn on the radio then turn it off. Help feed the mast into the motor it should feed itself if the gears are faceing the right way. make sure that the mast is in all the way and reinstall the chrome nut. Done!
thanks
Thanks everyone, if im not working tomorrow i’ll use my dads shop and i’ll try doing what you said.
Thanks again
instead of buying a new tool you can do as I did. I used a flat tip screwdriver and placed it into the slot of the special antenna nut and tried to turn the nut, and yes it did. a viser method could be finding an assistant and using a second screwdriver on the opposite slot, so that you would have even force applied on the nut. And if you wanna change the mast there is one teg tip that I wrote, in which I explained how to overcome some wear problem in the power antenna assembly. it is in the exterior section of the teg tips, might be worth to fix that one too, if you gonna take the assembly out.
