Any proclaim expert on distributor?

Does anyone know how to tell if a distributor is on its way out or not?

Well, here is the deal. I have so much confidence in this integra of mine that I have decided to do a long distance road trip from here (houston) to Toronto. Ca. I have family there. Anyway, I just hate to be stranded in the middle of the road half way there or back.

if you think you are going to get stranded then i would take another distributor with you…I have had tons of problems with distributors…I went threw 3 this year…Then i got smart and went to honda and bought one directly from them…I have not had any problems with it ever sense…I would say just take another one or at least get a new coil and igniter because those are the 2 main things that go out on our tegs…

I fully agree, I went through 2 myself in the last year, and when I finally coughed up the cash to take it to the dealership, they used Honda OEM parts, and I’ve never had a problem again… go figure.

I installed a reman unit, and it has worked fine for me, and it only cost $121 USD. You can tell if the bearing in the distributor is shot by placing your hand on the cap … if you feel an abnormal vibration, that is your bearing falling apart. Also, when it decides to die, there will be a metallic squealing sound coming from the distributor. DO NOT DRIVE after hearing this noise … you could seize the bearing, then your timing belt jumps, then you are fawked :(.
