Yeah the stock B17 was a slug… It did have a ton of miles on it. Hard to go back from the B18c to that…maybe I’ll grab some p30 or type R pistons and see if I can get it to smog. Hopefully it would smog with my stock P61 ECU…
What header are most people running? Is DC the only decent legal option? Or does everyone use those ebay headers now?
i just built high comp b20 vtec and it runs more efficient and cleaner than my old b18a1. im running an RMF header with a magnaflow high flow cat and an ebay cat back. i dont think it affects it in a negative way

Yeah, but your wallet is gonna be in better shape than me. This was not a planned expense since it seemed like my motor was very healthy other than some abnormal oil results. Now I get to spend all $$ I had saved for entry fees, tires, and brakes on a new motor

There isn’t a good smog legal header choice. IMO anything with <2.5" collector is worthless for anything you’re going to tune on a dyno, and there aren’t any CARB legal headers with 2.5" collector for the DA chassis. I’d suggest running a Toda Replica or maybe a Skunk2 Alpha and then finding a cheap DC or even a stock manifold for smog purposes only. Afterall, it’s pretty easy to swap a header. Last time I smogged my car I used a spare DC header that a friend had laying around. I cut off the flange and re-welded it to match the location of the stock ITR header as well as swaged the collector open to 2.5". While not a true 2.5" collector it made it so that it bolts up to my 2.5" cat properly and now can be used on any of our friend’s cars that are setup for the ITR fitment headers (which is pretty much everyone these days).
Cool…i might just pick up another JDM ITR 4-1 then…I have one, but some dummy welded a 2 in collector onto it, and crooked on top of that…I drove an hour and a half to pick it up for 100 bucks and change…so I bought it anyways(also a dumb move )…I can just cut off the collector and weld another on…or just buy another.
I already have the heat shield so it looks stock-like. I figure it’ll out perform a DC anyways, maybe not as good as some aftermarket choices, but possible to pull off with the cops visually and still perform ok. I still have all the OEM stuff to smog if necessary. I was hoping someone had CARB’ed another header…but I do realize there’s not a whole lot of money in the old stuff anymore…I’ve been playing with my FG2 mostly now, but I still want to drive the ol DB2 here and there.
I’m going relatively tame with whatever setup I do… either the B18c with p30 pistons and CTR head/cams/IM, 68mm TB…or the B17 with the same. Just improved OEM part upgrades for the most part.
