Are 9.0-1 pistons good for turbo?

9.0:1 arp pistons. Are these pistons good to go with for a 1992 GS-R? I am planning to go turbo soon but I am going to run it without turbo for a while. What do you think the horsepower loss is with going with these pistons?

Yes, those pistons are perfect for a turbo application.

Naturally aspirated, I don’t think you will lose too much hp when using those pistons until you go turbo since your stock C/R is 9.7:1.

Leo, couple of questions for you. One, how much for the poly ingalls kit (GSR01 is looking for one), and what do you think about running the stock GS-R pistons at 9.7:1?

high compression & turbo will always make more power than a similiar low cr setup, but at the expense of a smaller margin of error when tuning. are you rebuilding your motor or just bolting-on a turbo kit? if you are rebuilding, consider aftermarket forged pistons because the stock cast pieces are the weakest link in the motor.

Thanks Don. I just wasn’t sure how much compression would be ‘too much’ for simple tuning. I don’t have access or resources to do a bunch of dyno runs, so hopefully a couple will do me just fine. As for rebuilding, yes, I am. Don’t want to just slap a turbo on there and throw a rod or something similar. BTW, what kind of compression are you running, and what psi are you boosting?

“blacksheep” project STARTED?

:uhoh: i’m going to stay tuned, jordan. looking forward to seeing your car the way you want it.

hey jordan i like 10:1 myself but 9.5:1 should be more than safe. currently my motor has about 9.5:1 cr, boosting an untuned 8psi. after tuning i’ll be boosting about 13psi daily, because that’s how stiff my wastegate spring is.

Email us at Importstop@mindspring.com with your zip code and we will quote you a price shipped.

As for the stock GSR pistons used for a turbo app, what qwkteg said.

Thanks Don, Leo.

dsmn thats hairy… if you get it to work congrats cause its going to be a bad ass setup!
