Hey, do you know how to install air conditioning? If so, what parts will I need and how much would you charge to install it?! I can’t stand this summer without ac man! I thought i could bare with it but i can’t. Anyhow, your response would be appreciated and thank you!
You dont have a/c in a 92 GS?? Did you take it out at some point?? The GS came standard with a/c…
I havent installed one before, but it doesnt seem like it would be too hard. I really dont know how long that would take though. I could consult my trusty shop guide if need be and see what it takes.
Do you have any a/c parts?? I need to know what you have to tell you what you will need…

Believe it or not, I think the GS that i have was customed ordered by the couple who had it before me and they added every option known to man EXCEPT for air conditioning! Anyway, I’m assuming I need the ac compressor, ac reservoir, and all the hoses, AND the new dash panel that has the button “ac” correct? If there are any other parts, please explain.
Give me your honest opinion…I have an automatic and power really is not an option (horse powers) to me so I would think that the addition of ac is not that big of a deal…I already added an acura oem alarm which totally adds value to this car…anyhow, do you think it is worth installing ac? I mean, I imagine going to a junkyard and finding all the parts really easily…
That could be some pretty rough work there. I dont know what is going on in the dash as far as wires go. That could be some seriously labor intensive work right there.
I know that there are hoses that have to be ran though the firewall and some wiring done up in the dash, but I dont know the extent of what it would take and/or if it would be worth doing.
You should get some more advice on this, preferably from someone who has installed a/c in an RS (if anyone has).
I have most of the parts needed to do the conversion too (compressor, condenser, condenser fan, some of the brass lines).

See, I was just hoping that for the dash, that i could just buy a panel with those buttons and whatnot, and it would come with a harness of some sort, which in turn on the ac condensor side, would have the other side of the harness. I was hoping it would be “plug and play” so to speak like my alarm i installed…
I am not sure if that is how it is, but it might be.
I think Dan (G2Guru) still has a dash in his garage that he might be able to get you parts off of. You should get a hold of him and find out.

Just a quick question – did you buy your car in WA or did you go up to BC to buy it or something? I’m pretty sure A/C wasn’t standard equip on the canadian models because I have a '90 GS, one of my friends has a '91 LS, and my ex-gf has a '92 LS and none of them have A/C. Two more of my friends DO have A/C though ('90 GS and '91 GS).
Also, I know that to get A/C installed on a 6th gen civic, dealers are asking about $1000 CDN (about $640 USD) for everything including parts and labour. So if you can find some used parts cheaper, and BR doesn’t want to attempt it, get a few quotes from dealers.
Oh and also take a look at a teg that already has A/C and take a close look at all of the components just so you get an idea how hard it will be to install.
HTH
I think that price they quoted was just for the install. Installing an a/c system is some tough work and most honda techs arent certifed for working on a/c systems.
Just an a/c compressor alone goes for $600ish from the dealer I think. That is just the compressor…

Bah, Seattleites are wussy. I’d give you my air conditioning stuff but I kind of want to keep it on because if I sell the car people probably want AC. I never use the damn thing, it sucks gas and robs power. Its poop. Your car is lighter without it. ![]()

The only thing that I use my a/c for is defogging the windows. For how often we get the sun, I dont mind when it hits me.

Man, so you don’t mind the leather seats and your legs and ass getting all burnt up in 90 degree weather? Both you and I have black tegs so you know that it absorbs sun like crazy man! Anyhow, I thought i could go the summer without ac until I went to the 604 meet…that drive up to canada was kind of unbearable…
my A/C will never go! i use on those nice hot winter days. hehe
like jason said… It’s a MUST for defrosting… and we all know we do lots of defrosting in seattle. ![]()
Don’t make me jealous tony…my car without ac defrosts just dandy in the winter! Too bad last winter my car had a fat leak and it was like a fat ocean (literally) in the back seat, making the windows not foggy but wet!!!
I gotta AC
My AC compressor is sitting right here in my room. Works fine if you wanna buy it. Took it out because i never use it. It gets hot but I hardly drive my G2 when its hot plus making room for turbo…
