how long does a auto trans last, someone told me that after it hits the 140k mark it starts breaking down. is there any truth to this, this was a guy from the acura dealership who said this. i’m asking cause i’m trying to sell a car with 127k miles and the timing belt and water pump was changed when it was at 90k, how much longer will the motor last?
Depends on how you drive your car daily, and how well it’s been maintained
The sooner mine breaks down…the sooner i get a stick:up:
Theres no set life on the engine or the tranny. Depending on how the car was taken care of, they could both go at 90k, or last to 250k. If your car still shifts normally chances are you have a good amount of life left on the tranny. My aunt and uncle have an accord @ 180k, still on the original tranny… they also have an '89 camry with 195k, original tranny as well. As long as your not doing neutral drops, your tranny should be fine and you shouldnt have any trouble selling the car.
My GS still has the original auto tranny and it has 200k on it. Still shifts great… fastest slushbox I’ve ever driven ![]()
Peace

my car has 195k miles… tranny shifts like it’s brand new (swear) and i drive my car hard… ask SOL1D. just do tranny fluid flush every 30k and oil changes every 3k.
integguy91, how’re you flushing the tranny? I only get about 1/3 to 1/2 when draining. Do you drain & refill a couple of times?

i can only drain out about 3 qts…
Me too, about 2.5 to 3 quarts. I read some where the total capacity is 6.7 quarts or so. Just wondering if there’s a way to change all of it without some sorta flushing machine.
I’ve looked at some of the Honda & Legend forums, and it seems the auto tranny will have problems well before the engine does. Keeping the ATF relatively clean is a must. I plan on draining once a year on my 90 ls. (If you do the math, you still have a small portion of the original fluid in there!)
