B16/B18/LS-Vtec ?

If a B16, B18, and an LS/Vtec (B18 with a B16 head) all were boosted to 400hp, and raced, which one would come in first?

i would say ls/vtec if its built right and has a short geared tranny, more torque then the other 2 so it would accelerate faster

Well, if all three motors made 400 hp, then the cars would all go the same speed.

Anyhow, all three of those motors can be built up to make alot of power. And it really comes down to what has been done to the motor. A B16 can be sleeved and bored out to 2.0 liters.

The thing is, I always thought that this was not a pound of feathers/pound of lead sort of thing, as a 400hp LS will be pulling harder and in a different power band than a B16 with the same hp, so I was wondering about that.

im actually not sure this is kind of a tough one the lsvtec will have more torque so you would think that would win but it also has a longer stroke so the powerband will be lower in the revs and it will make peak power faster making it harder to launch where a b16 with less torque wont peak until high up in thew power band making it an ideal power plant for drag racing

so in my opinion it would probably come down to the driver

that was probably wan of the stupidest things ive ever heard said on here do you even know what torque is ?

torque = 5252 x horsepower / rpm

Nevertheless, there are several unmentioned variables, that any form of discussion about which engine will out perform another won’t have very much backing. Variables such as the turbo’s CFM, the boost pressure, air fuel ratio mixtures, backpressure, cam lobe separations, rate changes in volumetric efficiency, ignition timing, engine speed, and so on, all have an effect as to when power is produced, and how much power is produced. A B16 block can be bored and sleeved to a 2.0 liter, and boosted to 20 lbs, and can make greater torque than a stock B18a bored to 1.834 liters boosted to 20 lbs.

With or without one of these?

That’s not fair those add 20 hp at the wheels :gay:

Why the fuck do you have to shit on normal threads? Can’t you save the bullshit for people witht threads asking about putting V8’s into G2’s?

:drunks:

Define “race”. Drag race, road race, or auto-x?

Race: those in a hurry to be pricks.
SO one of you has to stop :jerkoff: and give the other a chance to  .
And dont forget to use lube when your reaming each other  .

Now that I got that out of my system, to answer your question, I mean a straight line drag. Just meaning how the engines pull against each other in the different ranges of rpm’s, assuming their all redlining at stock, with the LS/Vtec redlining at 7k.
Thanks!

Um…yeah, did you eat a bowl of ‘stupid wheaties’ the morning you wrote this? I hope you were joking…

400 hp is peak hp…its not like the car is making it from 1rpm all the way to redline in every gear.

Really there is no way to answer the question posed…every engine is different, every setup is different, every torque curve is different.

Besides, motors dont race, cars do
