I got b16a sir2 in 90tegy(obd1 into obd0). I’m trying to solve the last problems with the swap. I had code 20(eld),I solved it by geting under hood fuse box from 94 tegy. The current codes that I’m geting are: 19(I got auto ECU) and 41(O2 heater).
Sorry for the long intro. My idle flucntuates(it always did since I started the motor). The IAC that came with the motor was broken, so I used one of my original b18a. I did reserch and most of the time IAC causes the problem. However b18a was fine. Can I use IAC form b18a in b16a sir2?
The other problem(I don’t know if they are related) is throttle response. I can’t hold RPM. The motor will accelerate or decelerate without being able to stay constant at sertan RPM.
If I unplug TPS and IAC is connected , the idle is 2000 RPM but it does not flucntuates and I can easily hold any RPM. To make sure I changed TPS but no dice… Some body told me that it is because of code 41…
What do you G2IC people think? Is it IAC,O2 or maybe TPS wiring? Electrical problems of OBD1 into OBD0.
if you try to hold at a certain RPM, say 3000, and it dies out and drops to 1000 and back up again- over and over… you most likely have a leak somewhere in the intake manifold… may be in the IAC, or at the throttle body, the intake manifold gasket, or can be pretty much whatever else is attached to the IM, like any vaccum lines… that happens even though you aren’t throwing codes if there is a leak in the vaccum…

I did all the steps and I’m still not geting norm idle. I think it’s IAC… I’m using the same unit from my old B18a and it was working before, strange.
I don’t know if it means anything, but when I unplug TPS, the idle does not fluctuate. It just stays at 2000 RPM.
What happens when you put your fingers over the holes in the TB? It should almost die when you put your finger over the IACV hole (or both if your car isnt warmed up). if it just goes down a little you are getting air in the IM somewhere. Again check all TB and IM mounting nuts. Make completely sure NO vacuum hoses are off, broken, or cracked. Silicone or replace the o-rings on the FITV and the IACV.
Did you screw the plastic thing in on the FITV?
It could be your TPS too. Check as the chiltons/haynes/helms manual says. Its probably not though.
Let me know.
Ben
When I put finger over the IAC hole in the TB, the idle stops fluctuating and it stays around 1000RPM.
There is no suction in the FITV hole(in the TB). I screwed the plastic thing in on the FITV. I checked all TB and most of IM mounting nuts(I can’t get to all of them, but it was never removed and the bolts that I checked were very tight). I replaced vacum hoses(SIR2’s IM only has 2)…mhh I don’t know what else to check
:bang:.
Maybe TPS wiring, but then again I’m geting corect voltage readings for it at the ECU harness.
I’m going to check everything again right now.
Ben, thanks for help.
Well, it sounds like you are getting a vacuum leak somewhere. Since you did change the IACV and FITV from the old motor it could be the o-rings on those valves (where they connect to the IM). Try replacing them or using gasket sealant on them. Maybe the bolts for them arent tight.
No problem, I’m here to help. I know how frusturating (sp) this problem was for me.
A little OT, but since you have 2 wiring harnesses (one from B18 and I’m guessing a spare from the B16) would you be able to part with 3 of the injector plug clips? The clips are thin wires that go around the white plugs that plug into the injectors (on the OBD-0/B18 harness). They keep the plugs from backing their way off the injector. I need 3 of them. I have a picture but imagestation says its an invalid file (imagestation sucks). I’l tryy a little later.
Ben
I know the clips that you are talking about. Unfortinatly I gave the b18a ingectors with the white conectors and clips on them to my friend(I cut them of my b18a harness and wired the SIR2 conectors in their place)
I’ll ask him tomorow if he still has them. If he does, where are you located?
I’ll be looking for vacuum leaks(I wish I could pressurize IM) Is it safe(fire) to use carb cleaner when the engin is running?

I’m in WA 99217. How much you want for them?
Carb cleaner will make the engine rev up when its running, telling you there is a vacuum leak. I’m almost positive there is a vacuum leak. The only way the engine would rev up would be if its getting extra air. They only place it is supposed to get extra air is through the TB. Maybe plug the while TB with your hand. It should almost die. Maybe your throttle plate isnt closed all the way. Maybe your throttle cable isnt adjusted right.
Did you check the IACV bolts? Did you replace the O-rings?
Ben
Sorry Ben, my friend used the plugs(and the clips) on his customer’s car. I’m gessing that you did’t have any luck with junk yards. What about the Honda/Acura dealer(they probably charge arm& a leg for it)? If you are having hard time finding them, I can get them from my local junk yard. They may cost you more then what they worth(junk yard price+shipping). Let me know.
When I pluged the TB my hand(ouch, I did not expected that much suction), the idle droped but it was far from dying. So it must be vacuum leak. I used carb cleaner but it did not show any signs of vacuum leak. Everything checked out O.K. The only thing that I did not replace are the O-rings on the IAC. I removed the IAC from IM while it is still connected(wires and cooling) and plug the hole on the IM. My idle became normal (the O-rings are the problem). I don’t know why the carb cleaner did not show me the leak. It was the first place where I sprayed. What a relief!!!
Ben,thank you very much
I have the clips that you need. I am swapping my new motor in this weekend. Give me your address and I will send them to you for free.
Good! I’m glad to hear it is working. I hope that is your only problem. If you have anymore questions let me know.
Blackteg, YGM.
