just got myself a jdm b20 12k miles
i have a 91 four integ
before install…
what conflicts will i come across…i know this is a straight foward proces…but i heard about wiring problems…what can be done and solved…and what will i come accross on?
ive done swaps before…ive put in 3 ls motors in aslteat 6 months…only spent $500 total for all motors but they had ove 150k miles on them so mite as well go get a low mileage b20 motor
dayam high mileage motors cant handle my driving!!
Should just drop right in. All you’ll need to use from your LS motor is the intake manifold, tranny, and ecu. Everything else is B20. Good luck with the swap.
you’ll need to switch your drivers side mount (engine half) to your ls one too.
The thermosensor switch is on the thermostat cover on the b20 and the switch is on the back of the block on the ls. I think you can just extend the ls harness and splice the b20 connector in (plugs are different). I’m about to try this operation, anyway.
I got the ls style low rise intake mani with my b20 and i want to use it, but it has WAY less vacuum tube support. Is there a tube routing guide for this? I know lots of people have put later gen intake mani’s on their older tegs.
also you need tos wap the crank pullies, use your b18a crank pulley. power steering belt will not fit, because the ps pully on the crank is a ribbed fat pull, not the v-belt design. also everything on the crank is wider in diameter, so all your belts will not work, they will be too short.
Also you need to plug that one tube (maybe a tps sensor tube) from the b18a intake manifold to the top of the b20b valve cover. Don’t use the breather box on the b18a.
B20B fuel injectors won’t work, so use your existing b18a stuff.
You must cut the dipstick housing thing, because it sits way high. I sawed it off easily with a hacksaw and marked the dipstick to where it usually sits in a b20b so that when checking the motor oil, don’t push down further than that mark. to put the dipstick in, you’ll need to kinda push hard and force it to sit and seal the hole. Otherwise keep that b20b dipstick in your trunk, with it marked off, and use your b18a dipstick to cover the hole where the dipstick goes, and when u wanna check motor oil level us the b20b dipstick in the back.
take off the wacky heatshield that comes ont he top of the valve cover.
You also have to change the coolant housing right behind the thermostat because it’s missing one coolant tube that will route to the LS intake manifold.
leo’s right. for a 92-93 (not sure about 90-91) just remove the entire thermostat and put it onto the b20b block, housing and everything. it has an extra tube that you need, which the b20b doesn’t have.
on the '90/91, keep the back half of the housing from the ls (for the extra coolant tube going to the g2 intake mani), but keep the b20 thermostat cover with the thermosensor.
Cut the connector off the b20 harness and easily splice it into the ls harness and route it across to the new thermoswitch location. (it works too)
