backfiring bad?

when i coast in 3rd gear and hit the gas my car backfires. is this bad? i have a bolt on rear section for exhaust mods. actually even better, is any type of backfire bad? thanks

bad. i suggest you go grab a haynes manual and start troubleshooting

Is it backfiring or just popping? cuz if you have no/little backjpressure and u jump on the throttle, it will pop sumtimes.

umm, load as in you can hear it slightly? or loud as in you have to cover your ears?

if you just rest you rfoot on the gas it may kinda pop a little its not unusual or if you shift slowly some times it may . a true backfire sounds like a gun (out the exhaust). an old rule of thumb is if it backfires out the intake its prob. lean if it backfires out the exh. its prob rich. but thats only for loud backfires.

I have some backfire too some times, usually when I rev high and shift, when I press cluth and release the gaz pedal, there is some small pop in the mufler, I think its normal, its not a gun shot like you said ;o)

my car has been making a “pop” noise lately too…only when i drive conservative and only seems to be heard from 1st to 2nd shift…if i go slow w/ the clutch and gas…it will pop…occasionally from 2nd to 3rd

dunno what it is though…

Sometimes my car pops when I’m driving hard let off the gas and down shift… it’ll do that… VRRRrrrrr pop pop pop vrrrrrr thing.

these are all normal sounds . you’ll know when you backfire for real.
