battery relocation

Looking to geta turbo kit and everyone I’ve seen has relocated their battery. I’m wanting to know who has done it the way the teg tips showed or used Moroso or any other way. This is my first dive into doing something to my car and I want things to go as smooth as possible. Any info would be much appreciated.

Oh man…I’ve hadn’t read the write up in the Teg Tips section before…that’s terrible. DON’T DO A BATTERY ELOCATION LIKE THE ONE IN TEG TIPS!!! It won’t pass tech at any track and for good reason, it damn dangerous on the track and on the street.

I did it the correct way using a Moroso battery box and their cable kit. Install is straight forward. Figure out where you want box, drill holes for the tie down connect wires. I added a second chasis ground and the rear of the car using one of the rear tow hooks. It’s not clear in the write up how the battery was reconnected to the wiring harness but the way I did it was just to run the cable from the battery to the terminal on the starter. That is the easiest way to get power to the main harness, it also utilizes the fuses already in the fuse box.

I’ll talk to Neal about writing a new Battery Relocation tip for the Teg Tips…

remember to properly vent the battery

Since i only like taking 1 or 2 passengers, would it be better to mount the battery on the floorboard behind the driver seat? It would put the battery lower and more towards the center of the car to reduce rotational inertia. ???

Yea, that battery relocation is pretty awful, especially in a hatchback where you share the air with the “trunk” area. You definately have to get a sealed box with vents that go outside the car. I also heard possibly you can use a Optimum battery which is sealed and you don’t have to put that in a box. I’m not sure, just something to look into.

only problem with the moroso box and wire kit is that its close to $180 :frowning:

I’m looking at the general Summit catalog and their baterry kit is the cheapest-42.95

but summit’s version isnt IHRA approved. And it’s only NHRA approved if the car has a rear firewall, so if you’ve got a hatch back, you’re SOL. You’ll get your ass in a sling taking it to the track

Yeah they’re pretty strict about it. I got my ass handed to me going through tech at Pomona (NHRA’s headquater track, they’re really really really strick there) the first time with the box in the back and I Was told I needed to put a master shut of switch on there…I was told this after I paid for my tech card and entrance fee of coarse…
