Best tranny for Ls with t3/t4

What would the the best tranny for a b18a1 with a t3/t4 in the 1/4 mile? Is it worth spending the extra money and getting an LSD.

I would say your regular tranny now. Because of the longer gears. People say longer gears are better for Turbo. Myself I never though about going turbo but I want the b16 tranny for quicker accel on stock b18. Or maybe B20z with b16 tranny :). I’m not about LSD though

i say get the lsd, it’s best if you get one since your going turbo for that extra traction. have both tires spin instead of one.

get a JDM ITR tranny…already has the LSD stock…

shorter gears are better for acceleration in the 1/4 mile.

its all about putting the power the engine makes to the ground…shorter gears do this best.

Long gears are good for the highway, period.

it’s all in what your trying to spend $$$$!! as long as you have the funds, you can have anything!!

For making tons of wheel spin through 1st and 2nd gears…

I think that there comes a certain power level where it doesn’t matter what gears that you have it will do that anyway. Until you reach that power level, buying the right tires and maybe traction bars or something should be just fine.

choosing a long or short gearing tranny should depend on where ur power lies and what u redline at …shorter gears will keep u in the power band …
‘longer’ gearing helps if u have a broader power band, so when u shift and u fall out of the higher rev ranges ur motor has enuff grunt to build the power back up …

Defenitely use your stock tranny and worry about some good tires/traction bar. Trust me, you will need it! :giggle:

if you’re going to use your car as a daily driver, use the stock tranny. Then race it for a while. After that you can go with a shorter geared tranny, which is basically a torque multiplier. The reason you go through the RPMs faster is because you’re going faster ;). Longer gears are good if you’re not the greatest at driving and if you keep the car as a daily driver, it’ll keep the RPMs low and save you on some gas money.

the B16 and LS trannys 1st and 2nd gears are very similar, so they will feel the same, its 3rd 4th and 5th that you will feel the extra acceleration.

if i was looking for faster times in All Motor OR Turbo, i would get a B16 tranny.

if traction is a problem, get LSD.

if its still a problem, get slicks

If it’s still a problem after that, buy a CRV drive train and make your cat AWD or RWD, because that’s about all the option you have left.

would you think that tha cable b16 Y1 tranny would be good a on turbo ls with a t3/t04e turbo??

or you can have both by swaping the Ls 5th and main gears…

hads down VTEC tranny. if you learn to use it right, you will be faster.
