Hey guys, Just had my car painted 6 months ago and I’d like to know what would be the best wax to use to protect my paint from the bad winter? I don’t really mind the shine factor but the more important is the protection factor and how long it will last… My dad once told me that Nu Finish wax was putting a damn coat of something on the paint that was hell to remove, so would this give a good protection?
I would suggest using the #26 Professional carnubua by Meguiere’s…
If you use the Mirror Finish liquid glaze first and follow with the 26, you will be laughing for sure.
I’ve used many waxes but haven’t found one as tough as the 26. Only a section at a time though or you are in deep sh-t. Also… do your rims with the 26 too… great protection for sure. If you want a blinding shine on your rims and exhaust, use Wenol first (medium grade followed by fine) then buff.
No problem bro… As for the wax, I get mine at an independent paint/body shop that one of my friends runs (well… for maybe another week anyway – :bang:
As for tips to apply it… Get some household sponges and cut them up into maybe 3"x3" squares. Apply the wax back and forth and up and down in about 1x1’ or 2x2’ sections at a time. Use a good quality microfiber cloth to remove the excess and then machine buff with a polishing bonnet after complete. To do it properly will take maybe 3-4 hours – if you need to whip it off, maybe half that time.
If you use a buffer, either use a lower speed random orbit or practice on a paint job less-precious than your’s first. If it isn’t a random orbit machine, you MUST keep moving and let the weight of the unit do the work. Remember… back and forth… up and down…
I don’t know why everyone applies waxes in a circular motion and then complains of swirl marks?¿¿?? :tsk:
This will keep your paint lubricated so the oils don’t fade and dry up as well, it will create very good looks and protection also.
Want a good tip on drying your car off easily?? Trust me on this one… When you have washed it all to your satisfaction, use either a bucket or a hose and ‘chase’ the flow of water from the roof downwards. If you gather all the water together, it will join with itself and help pull all the droplets with it. Imagine that… drying a surface with water…
Don’t go out and buy a buffer if you don’t want to… You can use this wax by hand it just takes a little effort.
As for the price of the wax… maybe $20?? Not exactly sure… it lasts almost forever. My boss borrowed mine because he was going to wax a new XJS with a bunch of junk he bought from Crappy Tire. Granted, they do sell some decent materials but he asked me, “Where else can I go… There’s OTHER stuff I can use??”… Then I threw together some stuff for him and have never seen it again since… I’ll have to hound him for it in the Mon. morning mtg… lol.
funny thing is that the oil leaked all over his dash and head unit (from the auto dimming mirror). He’s taking them to court… I told him that nothing like that would ever happen on my 10 year old teg… my head unit has never had oil on it… lol
I went at Crappy Tire and got nothing… I checked on the Meguiars website and they list this product in the ‘professional’ section… So I don’t think i’ll be able to find it at any stores… Would a paint shop have some? Would it be possible for your to send me one bottle if I can’t find it anywhere?
Go to your local detailer, auto paint shop, body shop, or even fiberglass distributor. If you can't find any of course I can help you out. I can get this stuff at several places around here (not Crappy Tire or WALMART though... lol).

Umm Schucks, Auto Zone, Baxter’s all carry Meguiar’s hi-tech yellow car wax.
I just ordered a bottle at my friendly(cough, cough) speed shop! I’ll have it by monday for a nice $19,95 plus tax! I’m happy!
Another question neex, I saw on the Meguiar’s website that they have a kind a polymer sealant #20, would it be worth it to put the sealant before and the wax after or should I just stick to the wax?
Answer, try PartSource. They are an affiliate of Canadian Tire and they carry all of the yellow/brown bottle Meguiars stuff. That’s what I use on my car.
Look at the finish, almost looks like a mirror, huh?
O hey! I have that Meguiars Hi-Tech Yellow wax. I picked it up at my local Autozone for $9.99. I have yet to try it out though. I’ll post something with more relevance when i try it out.
teflon in car waxes, sealants, etc. is pretty much hocus pocus IMO. If you do any reading on teflon, you will find that it has almost no protective or bonding qualities to it unless it’s heated to a very high temperature. To protect your car with teflon, you’d have to heat it up to something like 500d.C and then fuse the teflon to it…
wax on… wax off… the jury is out on the teflon though.
