Blew the head?

My Car :1992 Acura Integra GS 5spd, 132K good condition
Mods: just put them on last week: short ram intake, iridium spark plugs, and Sparcko 9.2mm wires

This just happened this morning(around 35 degrees) on my way to school…it really sucks ass-but i would appreciate your advice a lot.

I wake and start my engine like normal, i let it warm up for about 2mins. I’m driving …everthing is fine. Well i’m about 5 min from school when i stop at a light-i’m waiting (everthing is perfect)-THEN all of a sudden my engine starts to buckle and the idle is hopping above and waaaaaay below 1k. I’m like “WHAT THE #$%” The light turned green and i had to get out of the way so i started to go: keep in mind i’m scared as hell because i don’t know what’s going on. Well I start to go and i see smoke starting to exit out of my exhaust and the engine begins to make a cranking like sound w/ smoke starting to seep out of it!! Right when this happens the engine dies and im cruising w/ no power at around 35mph. As i’m cruising i try to start the engine because the 1st thing i’m thinking is i need power to get this thing to a lot(out of the way) i somehow manage to gather enough momentum to turn into a nearby Pizzahut right down the street from my school. I’m pissed. I pop up the hood and a cloud of smoke smiles back at me. hmm no hole in the engine head just a overall cooked block(so is seemed). Smoke seemed to be coming from below the engine head…thinking it might be gasket but not too sure. There was some oil slighty leaking out of the (oid dipper). I had to walk to 1/2 mile to school. I had some friends try to help me out but they weren’t sure. One thought i might have poured too much oil…Would this do that? i used mobil one and poured 4pints? well i got home and leaked about 1/2 to a pint of oil out…it seemed black still…should be honey color. Im not sure…i did replace the oil filter and i just changed oil about 5 days ago. HELP! Please ! I’m curious to know what happened…im taking it to a shop…but having and ideas what would cause this? Timing belt? Too much Oil? head gasket? blown head? There was smoke coming from the front side of the engine.
I give all the details you need to help me out. THANKS A LOT !!

Hmmmmm…

Sorry to hear that man,

Curious, How much oil did you put in? Because if you have to much oil in your car, then the motor with definately blow Seals…which seems what happened…

BEcause if you have a blown headgasket, you will notice it in the morning when you start your car up and it blows out blue smoke, then doesnt blow smoke out after that…

Looks like you overfilled the head with too much oilll…

Yeah that’s what one of my friends said, but I just couldn’t believe that it would cause that many problems.

…too much oil will lick an engine in no time… How much did you put in?? Try draining it and filling it up properly before doing anything drastic. You may be in for a rear seal job or something but I don’t think you ruined your engine.

There have been suits again local gas stations for R&R of engines based on employee incompetence in terms of adding too much oil. Typically if it starts to come out the top of the dip stick pipe, it's too full....

Did it overheat??

Andrew.

how much damage can this usually cause-over filling the oil?

Is it a manual transmission?? If so, if the rear seal fails (which is seems to have), you will likely damage your clutch plate assy. If you get engine oil all over a clutch plate (where friction needs to be optimal), you will have some troubles on your hands with slippage for sure. Likely, the car will rev high and move very little because of a lack of engagement.

The other issue to contend with would be that if the front bearing seal were to blow, all your belts would be soaked in oil and it would be thrown all over the place under the hood and perhaps on your brake rotors, cv boots, etc.

If you don’t drive it much and you never ran the oil dry, a basic inspection or R&R of the clutch plate as well as the replacement of rear and front bearing seals should solve your problem. So to answer your question (or attempt to), you could seize your engine if you keep running it with failed bearing seals… you could also damage your clutch or lose your braking abilility or even damage electronic components. If you run it dry, you will overheat, blow the head gasket, crack the head, lock up the pistons, and ruin your engine beyond reasonable repair short of a full rebuild.

Get it looked at when there’s still oil in it (if there is any). You will definitely have to replace at least one seal if not two. Expalin exactly what happened and go to a certefied ASE Master Tech – bring your wallet with you…

HTH

Andrew.

I just took it to the shop today. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

good

GOODLUCK MAN

:frowning: to put it plain in simple…my engine is dead. 600-900 minimum to repair the engine, which means new gasket, head repaired, and block repaired. It will must likely run more, and this is from a friend’s Uncle. I’m trying to look for a 92+ , B18A, B18B engine, and or parts(head only, Block only) etc. Would apprecite help for finding an engine block with less than 100k miles and less than 800$. Thanks.

-I can’t believe this.

what was wrong with the engine?

Can over filling your oil do that much damage?

No water/ radiator fluid…the engine overheated. THE ONE THING i overlooked. It is my fault, I know that, but know i have to think about how to get the money to rebuild it (I’m still in high school btw…) I’m thinking about slapping a vtec head on there(lots of work).

I was at a local junkyard yesterday and inquired about an LS engine. He said usually he gets $300 for one. Had a 95 in stock. You can check with them and see if they ship. Its called Hilltop Auto Salvage in Johnson City, TN. I can get the number if you cant look it up on here.

Hey, appreciate it. If i can’t find one here, i’ll be sure to look up Hilltop auto salvage.
