BLKACK1's Build Thread

Definitely not the update I was hoping for… it’s just one thing after another, right?!?

Was it dropping pressure?

Thanks

isnt that the truth. if it isnt one thing, its another!! at start up it woud take a second to register pressure then jump up to 60 psi and work down to 40 psi (this is fine) but if left to warm up would be less than 5 psi at idle. Good news though. new pump came in yesterday and with the help of members teggyguy and deceptakan got the DP, oil pan, valve/belt covers and both timing and alt. belt off. getting readdy to go pull the pick up and pump in a little bit and hopefully get the new one on tonight and the whole project wraped up within the week

Ill post pics later

Woot! That’s great news man.

Pics of the carnage??

Pump

sproket/ring gear

Cover

hard to say a definate cause but there where deffinatly some kind of metal in there. dredged the oil after draining with a magnet in a latex glove and picked a couple small pieces of what look like possible weld slag. also found while cleaning out the pickup screen a piece of metal shaving which looked like a bolt thread(noticed it is actually the lowest part of the thread for the bolt that the pick up goes in) as well as 90k’s worth of hondabond and some other small piece of pieces. Im really got my fingers crossed that the oil filter did its job… Im thinking about having the filter diagnosed depending on the cost. hell or high water, the CO G2 crew is cruising this year… lol

good news is the new pump is cleaned pickup are on and everything else in the motor looks pretty good. oil pan cans been cleaned and preped with new gasket for install and gonna try and have the timing belt on by tuesday. maybe emissions on thursday if everything goes accordingly:cross:

more updates to come soon…

awesome build dude.

HAHA, thats perfect timing from my last post

Got the timing belt all tensioned and the oil pan finished up last night. gonna finish up with the flywheel cover plate and the down pipe. after that all I need is a new wg gasket, do a valve adjustment(going to tighten up the clearance to see If i can get that valve train to quite up a little bit), get the vc back on and prime the oil pump before I actually start it up.

Um where are the updates? Slacking man

^I agree. Slacker.

Slacking, in this thread? Nowai!

I hope to read good news in the coming few days sir! No upgraded Toda oil pump gears this time around?

:frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

well at least it didn’t explode like mine did. hope it all works out!

WHOAAAA!! who said any thing about slacking in this build… Ive just been slacking on updates

its late, and work at 6 in the morning is not far away so im gonna give you the cliffnotes of the last 2 months.
fixed oil pump/seal didnt seat right
drove to emission/ wouldnt do. small oil leak and I quote"A Fraction of an inch too low" WTF really!!!
replace main seal/ striped TB tension… :bang:

Motor is currently on the floor of my garage awaiting 2 time serts( finding time when Im not physicly exhausted has been the only reason thats not done yet…)

Unified— nahhh, no toda. just a good old OEM.

knock on wood. Im still not out of those woods yet so dont go jinxing it

Thank you, Thank you.

Kevin, what up brotha. havent seen you around in a while. I hope all is well

Finaly getting a day off after 2 months of strait work. plan is to get started on the timeserts tomorrow.

Bullshit. Plan is to finish the timecerts and install motor. Yup.

LOL so close…

Got new updates, most good, some bad…

Got both time serts in…
started with the half shaft. the striped out threads

My savior!

Marking the depth measurement to ensure I dont go to deep.

Old thread drilled out

Taping block for insert.

threaded hole

insert in place and finished up

On to the timing belt. to busy concentrating on not messing it up but managed to snap a couple while I was using the insert tool and end result.

Time belt went on without incident, and motor is back in the car

got the entire back side collant, electronics, cables and hoses hooked up. went to grab the radiator for installation and I noticed a little blue residue at the base and decided to have it pressure tested. Wish I hadnt done that… turns out there are more then a couple small holes and It appears as if the core is rotted/ing out…

I decided being this bad boy has lasted me well over 10 year between 2 cars, countless times of being in and out of the car, daily driving and all out track days… It was time for a new one. IMO, it wasnt worth the money too repair with such a uncertain future. new radiator should e here Tuesday along with another 6an bung. hope to have it welded, back to me and installed along with every thing else and running in 2 Fridays. Shortly there after gonna hit the dyno for a finshed tune…

updates to follow soon:up:

Hell yes!

Those time-serts can be tricky, but it looks like you got it handled. Top notch work sir!

Out of curiousty, what radiator did you end up going with?
