One of my friends has major compressor surge on a 1G DSM BOV while running 2.5psi, basically the BOV just isn’t opening because of the low amount of boost.
Is there any BOV’s out there that will accomodate this low amount of boost? Or should he not be having this problem? I’ve read that if you “loosen” the BOV it should get rid of it, does this mean just loosen the bolts on the flange?
A Turbo XS Type H for example says it handles 10psi up to 25psi, this seems like it would give the same compressor surge that the DSM BOV does on my friends card.
The BOV opens when it sees vacuum in the intake manifold. If its not opening properly, its not because of the boost he is running, its because he isnt pulling enough vacuum or the line going to the BOV has a hole in it.
I dont even think you could only boost 2.5 psi…what external wastegate would have a spring that low and what internally gated turbo would be set that low…
He modified the wastegate rod to open at 2lbs he says. I don’t know him very well, one of my good friends does and I’ve just heard hearsay about his setup.
He blew his ZC at 5psi yesterday, so obviously he does have something wrong with his setup. Xenocron, how you would “pull more vacuum” for everything to work right?
Let me get this straight, any BOV will work correctly for any amount of PSI on any turbo?
When the engine isnt boosting, it is sucking in air creating a vacuum. If its not sucking in a lot of air as soon as he lets off the gas (Throttle closes immediately), most likely there is a hole in the tubing going from the intake manifold to the BOV. If this is the case he probably has idle issues as well.
Some BOV’s cant hold in a lot of boost…stock DSMs are good to like 15psi I guess…but that would just cause someone to boost less than they wanted to or increase lag times because the BOV would be opening before the wastegate does.
