buy new type r head or upgrade b16a

Well I’ve got a stock b16a head and it definately needs to be upgraded with at least new cams, valve springs, and titanium retainers. Is it worth it to add that to a b16a head- cost around 10-1200- or should i bite the bullitt and buy a new type r head- around 1800 and all I’d have to add is titanium retainers and 8 new valve springs instead of 16. Whaddya think? thanks for the info.

i would go with the R head, because i believe the intake manifold ports are larger, along with all the ports. and more air = more horsepower. plus im sure it can take more of a beating than the b16 head.

Obviously… this guy doesn’t know jack…First of all… b16 head is near identicle to the type R… you want to save money get your head ported and polished, drop some ITR valves, springs, retainers, then buy the Type R manifold it all bolts up and you spend less then buying a bare head with no manifold and you get more flow from the port.

Now the question is, have someone port out and spiff up your b16 head, or buy the type-r head, wich I think if Im not wrong is basically all ready hand crafted and all, from honda to begin wich…personally I’d go with the typer-r head…but thats just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Mugen_DA6 hey bro be nice… he really didn;t know… he just thought he did… but seriously, gen2ls/vtec , what are your availablities as far as porting go? some1 local or u going with say Portflow? If u go with portflow, Dan (g2guru) and myself can vouch for his work. The b16 head and ITR head are pretty much like Mugen _DA6 said, the same things as far casting, just the valve springs are stiffer( pretty sure, if i am wrong please correct me ) and the ITR valves on the intake side are lighter and are more improved for flow (there’s a word for this and i can;t think of it right now) ports on the intake valve side were hand ported from the factory, NOT the all ports are larger, exhaust valves are the same as newer gen 3 GSR. and just as a personal note, i went and upgraded my b16 head, ( Portflow port and polish, mill<– big mistake TI retainers, ITR inner valvesprings, portflow outersprings, new ITR valves, new GSR exhaust valves )
