california b16 teg emissions

HEY!, you guys in CA, how do you b16 equipted guys pass emissions?? any tips on how to pass with a JDM b16 gen 1?? is it even possible??? any opinions will help thanks! :burnout:

P.S. please don’t tell me to search, if you have to tell me where I can find the info exactly.

well, you should have done a search. we have talked about this numerous times here (mainly my posts because i went through a lot of trouble researching what will be legal in cali). Also, you should do a search on the net (like www.google.com) for the california smog and engine swap rules. Cali has a site that posts the rules (eventhough they are pretty confusing).

Basically, you will not pass smog with a b16a. I have heard that if you can prove that your jdm engine is EXACTLY the same as a usdm counterpart, then it will be legal (assuming you follow all the other numerous engine swap rules). So, you would have a chance proving that your b16a is the same as a b16a2 or b16a3. However you would need to change intake manifolds, run obd1 or obd2, use a hydro tranny, and quite possible have some other changes as well. Most likely a lot more hassle than its worth. To spend all that time and money to change things you might as well just do a b17a swap, or just pass smog illegally.

remember, here in cali the emissions isn’t hard. All honda engines should pass with flying colors (if it doesn’t then there is either a broken part, or you just need to tune the engine differently because of all your performance mods). In cali it is the visual and engine swap rules that make passing smog and the smog ref difficult.

any engine swap you do will have to be taken to a smog ref. If its legit then you get a BAR sticker, and can then get it smogged at any normal smog station. Without the BAR sticker smog stations aren’t legally allowed to smog your car.
