well i’m pretty sure my car battery is dead
its too old
but anyways
heres what happens
i open the door, hop into the car and i roll down the windows while my radio is on, when the window rolls down it seems like the car doesn’t have enough power to power the radio and roll windows down so the radio stops working
i’m positive its my battery
the only reason i’m posting is because i was just wondering if it could be anything else?
should i even bother to get my sister to jump start my car? i thought it would be useless cause the battery sucks anyways and its old and i would probably need to replace!
Get yourself a multimeter and check the voltage. A healthy charged battery should pump 12.6 volts or more. With the engine running, the alternator should increase that voltage anywhere between 13-14 volts. If you read more than 14 volts, chances are your alternator voltage regulator is faulty. If you read less than 13 volts, chances are you have a faulty alternator.
Check that first, and make sure that the battery is getting charged. Also, did you check the electrolyte level of the battery? Are both the positive and negative terminals in good condition (ie. no corrosion, terminals are secured tight)?
got a question about batteries too.
my battery lost juice 2x now. On the 2nd time i had a jump start and drove the car for an hour to recharge it - the next day the battery is dead again. can the battery still be recharged and reused by using those battery chargers u plug in the house outlet??? just curious . i bought a new battery already, just wondering.
the battery wouldn’t show the green eye anymore even after the one hour drive. thanks for the infos.
Just FYI the perfect voltage for an alternator is actually 14.4 volts so over 14 is definetly OK. I don’t like it if it’s under 14 when the engine is running.

One of the big things to check is if the battery is being drained by an appliance in the car (ie. rad fan, headlights, etc.). The other is what I’ve stated previously…check your charging system. In terms of the battery itself, the only thing you can check is the electrolyte level.
