I THINK IT MAY BE THE FLYWHEEL – What Is It?
I was downshifting because I have bad brakes and all of a sudden at about 10mph, it died. And wouldn’t start back up. WTF! Battery isn’t dead, Distributor and Rotor are fine, but popping the clutch won’t work, so it’s not the starter.
I’m trying to narrow it down, but am running out of possibilities.
Can someone help me out here?
Are you getting spark from the coil. I had the same problem, my coil and some other shizzo went out under my distributer and my car died and wouldnt start again. The best way to check is to have someone start the car while you hold the a screwdriver in the plug wire and hold it next to the chassis. If you see spark its not elecrical. If no spark take off the distributer cap and see if it moves when you start the car. If it doesnt move its the timing belt cuz the rotor under the distributer is basicly connected to your cam which is driven by the timing belt. our cars have a problem with thee distributor…so see if it is that.
yeah, E-DA9 is riight. It is your igniter inside your distributer. Will cost around 70 bucks, but trust me, ive had to help a couple fellow teggers stranded on the freeways here in la and in both cases it was a faulty igniter coil. I would put money on it, because that is a flaw in acura distributors because the coil is in a place where it can overheat. Buy one tomorrow, and put it in and see. If i am wrong you can return it for a refund, but trust me, i know tegs all too well.

I had the same problem, now it came back after a week. I changed the igniter, cap, rotor and spark plugs, and it was running fine. After a couple days it started to idle really bad. I tried to adjust te timing. I think I did it right. Later it just died and it wont start. I check the ignition coil and measure the resistance and it within the range that the manual said it should be. Do you think the igniter could have when bad after I put it in a couples days.

hey tech here open oil fill cap and have someone check if cams are turning while cranking over car, car died during down shift you may have lost teeth on t belt now teg is dead. quick anwser to ignighter responce car will die while driving but 10-15 min later will restart once ignighter has cooled down been acura tech over 10 years now trust me i’ve seen it all also have you done any thing to the teg lately? mods or tune up sometimes it helps to look over your work a second time . good luck will check list sunday 14th of april till then high gear+rpm’s no flashing red+blue lights.

apparently you haven’t, because my car had this exact problem, but the igniter and coil were both completely dead. they both got fried (the igniter, or Ignition Control Module as the Helms calls it, went out, and then took the coil with it). I finally got a new coil and igniter today and it fired right up. ![]()
would be nice to know what mod’s you’ve done to car friend coil+igniter gone ?? garenteed your running plat plugs !!!

LOL hes been a tech in an acura dealer for 10 years won all kinds of awards has his class 1 mechanics license and yet peeps like zoom know better! LOL damn **** makes me laugh so hard! Yea you know your car better than any one else …i mean you didnt do **** to it at all I guess it was just the igniters time to blow! LOL haha so damn funny!
N-e ways i guess you better listen to zoom because i mean it was just a tech trying to help you out but zoom has way more than 10 years experience on takeing appart and fixing Acuras… I mean he has to if he knows more, regardless if it is yours or not a stock integ is a stock integ and i know 10 tecs that i see every thursday at the shop that dont know crap all compared to zoom because it his car so you better listen to the master!..O wait but your not driveing his car so that means he dont know Sh-iat about yours because that’s not his car and he made it cleaar that he knew more because it was his!![]()

Yup!!! It was the timing belt–it snapped clear-cut. I took off the valve cover and the timing belt was there on the right just loose as can be. With a little tug, it came free, and was snapped. So, with a $17 replacement, I did the work myslef, and it is back up and running. Thanks Alot!!

I don’t have the dead teg problem, but I’ll likely have prob’s with my DA in the near and far future and I’d like to be able to count on sound advice from truly knowledgeable members or G2IC family like you…

actually, i never claimed to know more than your dad. i was merely saying that, since (i don’t know if it was you or him) someone was assuming my car was modified, that it wasn’t. and when an very adamant denial of that was given, i once again stated that i would know better whether or not my own car was modified. i never claimed to know more than a certified mechanic, nor do i ever claim to. jumping to conclusions is bad, mm’kay?
and to clear this one up, all 3 parts counter employees, as well as 4 techs, at acura, took a look at my distributor and all said the same thing: bad cap/rotor led to ignitor/coil having to work harder, thus causing them both to go bad. so actually, yes, it was just its time to go.
i have, however, lost a lot of respect for both you and your dad for drawing conclusions before asking for clarification–and then being a total dick about it.
