My transmission in my Integra is shot, it seems. When I start the car up and let it warm up for a minute then drive it… it stays in 2nd gear for about 4 or 5 minutes of driving. Then it’ll eventually shift (not very smoothly.) Then once it’s in 3rd gear, it doesn’t seem to want to go into 4th gear for about 2 or 3 more minutes. And once it does, it makes this loud VERY noticable tearing/scratching sound. Once the car is completely warm it seems to drive OKAY though. The shifting isn’t smooth at all as it kind of hesitates and then revs up about 2k more RPMS than the shift point and then shifts. Very wierd and it’s been happening ever since I got the car (2 years ago).
Anyone have any suggestions for this matter? What’s the cheapest way to replace the tranny?
Any ideas/thought/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
In that case you might want to take it in to the dealer to get looked at. I could help out a lot more if it was manual. I am not too good with auto trannys. All the cars I have ever owned have been manual…
had the same problem but mine wouldn’t shift into 3rd utill it was the tranny warmed up. everything about the hesitation and revs higher to shift in to gears happend to me. Took it to a tranny shop and some gears inside were like rubbing togeather and putting shavings in my tranny and some other things were wrong also. Well I had to get it rebulit for 1400 and it work like new now.
WOW! Thats… a lot. I don’t think I’d want to spend it on the car considering that I can just wait for it to warm up.
But at the same time it is quite annoying and inconvienient. Couldn’t I just find a slightly used tranny for like 300 bucks and swap that thing in or something?
My transsmission does the same thing as wrestleman2002’s does. I when to a transmission place and they told me it was probably the governer inside the transmission. He said that the entire transmission would have to be taken apart and that it would cost more to fix it than to replace it. I think the best thing to do would be to go to a wrecking yard and find a transmission for like $200-500 and get that installed.
