Hey all you guys runnign cold air intakes do you take the lil plastic piece off the bottom the splashguard piece. Im putting mine in soon as was curious. ANy help would be great. Thanks all
Are you talking about the one whole piece that runs all the way into the fender, pretty much the fender wall
I remember most members not cutting that away and leaving it for extra security from debris and water from getting sucked into the filter and intake. But once again for water to really mess with your engine or to even be sucked up by the intake your intake has to be submerged somewhat in water, and if you run your car through a big ass puddle of water, then you should get wats coming to you.
But if i were you, i would leave it but depending also waht area you leave in
LEAVE IT! Or find out why you should have. ![]()
I was tlakin about the getting rid of the piece right under where the stock air box would be in the bumper. WHat do you guys think of the AEM bypass valve worth getting. A friend here got one and it ended up breaking on her lol and she also went thru a puddle after getting LSvtec done aobut three miles from the shop and hydro locking the motor the same time, lol.
Mike, you talking about the resonator box or whatever? if so have to take it out to fit your intake. If your talking about your fender well lining, then i would leave it on. I ended up not having one on my teg only because if flew blasting down the freeway, then giving the CA extension away because the filter gets dirty hella fast without he lining. If you need a bypass valve let me know…i have one in my toolbox unused i’ll let it go for 25 bucks or something.

don’t cut out any plastic. and no, he’s not talking about the resonator —the resonator HAS to be removed or else the intake won’t fit.
don’t bother with the aem bypass. First off i’ve heard that its worthless and doesn’t actually work like they say it does. Second, if you’re out there driving around in a situation where hydrolock could occur… then you deserve hydrolock! to get hydrolock you need to go slowly through a VERY deep puddle (1-2ft!!), or at any speed through a VERY long (10+ feet) AND VERY deep puddle.
The fact is that first the filter is quite high off the ground. You probably have 4-6" up until the lip of your bumper, even on lowered cars. and the bottom of the filter is still at least 2-3" higher than that. and to actually get hydrolock you need to COMPLETELY submerge the filter, so that means the puddle has to be another 6" or so inches deep. So far thats at least 1ft deep. And still you could drive through a puddle that deep a long as its not too long because its gonna take a decent amount of time for the water to actually make its way into the bumper and fill up that spot around the filter.
few people realize the severity of driving conditions needed for hydrolock.
