Hey, I’m close to getting the Crower 403 cams, but now I hear they run rich? Is this true? So do I have to get an FPR when I get the cams? Could I just re-set the ECU? What are the downsides to running a little rich? Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can order these cams ASAP, thanx…
Cams do not make your car run rich.
Yeah, that’s what I thought. Cause all they do is letmore air/fuel into your cylinders by keeping the valve open longer, right? I don’t see how this results in a rich fuel mixture. But bonestock said the 403’s on his car made it run rich.
American- What would cause the car to run rich after the installation of aftermarket cams? I popped in the crower 403’s, and a couple of honda-tech and g2ic member ran richer than stock at idle.
thanks
How do you know they ran richer? Do you have an EGT gauge or air/fuel gauge or was your car dynoed with a broadband o2 sensor?
I wish I had those gauges, but funds are limited at the moment.
Ever since the 403’s were installed, my rear bumper started to turn blackish. There was also a strong smell coming from the exhaust. I talked to the shop that installed my cams and they said I was running rich and should use a fpr and dyno to lean the mixture at idle. I talked to a a few board members and they said the same thing. So I was under the impression this was the problem I was having.
I have recently gone back to stock camshafts and the coloration and smell is gone.
Should I have checked the sparkplugs to see if they were fouling?
Bad tuning?
I would think that new cams would make you run lean because you would be letting in more air, but not much more fuel. In either case, an FPR and a guage will do you good.
