CV Joint problem..torn boot....... Suggestions please

k. I checked my left CV Joint yesterday and the boot, the one that is closer to the wheel rotor, is torn and has been leaking grease for some time.

I contacted Acura of Memphis and they said that I need to replace the whole axle (whatever that means).

This is the quote:
“I spoke with one of our service advisors. He explained that there are two
axles. Repairing the CV Boot, including replacing one axle, would cost in
the neighborhood of $260-$280 plus tax. If both axles need to be replaced
then your cost would be in the $500 range plus tax. It all depends on
exactly what must be done so the price can vary some, but these numbers are
in the cost range. I can assure you that they will only do what is
necessary and will discuss repairs and charges with you at the time of
service in detail so you can know what to expect. You can always call our
service manager, Brian Massey, for further confirmation on pricing. He will
be glad to help you if he can.”

Just now I contacted AHMotor.com and they said that Acura doesn’t manufacture the whole axle, and what I really need is the Outer CV Joint kit which includes the outer boot, outer joint, band, grease, and spindle nut. The kit costs $154.25.

Which one’s correct and what do I really need? Can I do the labor myself? How hard is it?
Thanks

Go to wrenchhead.com, or your NAPA store, and order in a reman axle assembly … it’s the entire piece, and should only cost you $84 or so. That includes both the outboard and inboard joints.
As for the install, it’s easy as long as you have a manual to follow … remove a couple bolts, swing the hub out of the way, pry the old assembly out, push the new one in, etc etc.

I would be scared to hear a price from Acura on this part … :frowning:

I don’t wanna remanufactured parts cuz it’ll only last a year. This is the 2nd time I’ve had this problem. Last time, I got a local ship fixed it for 300 bucks for both sides.

Shenrie said the same thing too. That’s why I insist on OEM parts this time. As for the labor, I’ll manage to install it myself.

I haven’t had any problems with mine … why don’t you check out www.driveshaftshop.com … if you want to pay a little more

or www.vitekwires.com for their chromoly axles

Axles for our G2’s shouldn’t cost more then $80. If you get both they should only be around $160. It’s pretty easy to change the axles out yourself if you have the tools.

i just put 2 remaned axles in my teg for 120bux…got em at autozone for $59 each…the install really isnt that difficult…and they come with a lifetime warranty…heheh whcih is cool cuz my EF is going to breaking axles left and right…and im going to use my reciept for the teg axles to keep getting new ones :stuck_out_tongue:

fuk that…$250…wow. i just replaced mine and its only $60 for the part. just do it yourself. its cheaper and youll feel better about yourself
