DC Sports 4-2-1 Ceramic Header? Pros & Cons?

I want know everything!! I want to make sure im going after the right header…so far I’ve heard nothing but good things about this header.
BTW
Its going on my
90 GS
Akimoto III Intake
Brullen Exhaust

Any Info will do a simple NICE, GOOD, BAD anything…
just want to make sure I’m getting a good header.

ummmm… they’re great! just make sure that you clean them real good before you first fire them up, because what ever is on them the first couple of miles will get baked into the ceramic coating. It’s just to bad that they don’t look “new” after a year or two :stuck_out_tongue: but they still look great.

oh yeah… they’re easy to install too.

Clean them with what? Inside, outside, or both? What do they look like after a couple yrs? Last question is it a direct fit, does anything have to be done?

You won’t get a ton of power from them like people on here say you will. Well, actually you won’t really get a ton of power from any header really, just FYI.

well, I just got some grime and dirt on them, which came off with a wet paper towel for me. I’m not sure what to do if you get something really worked in though (not baked on though)

i heard just about 2 years of use that they start cracking, around the welds, but that’s what i heard

I’ve had mine for about a month and like them a lot. I already had intake and exhaust, and the header really did make a difference. It added good power throughout. With just i/e, the power plateaued at about 5,000 rpm, but with the header the car pulls right on up to redline. He means wipe the outside, I have a few small grease stains on mine. No biggy. I’d certainly recommend one.

So does anyone have or know someone who has had them for a few yrs. Is this a mod I willl have to go out and replace a few yrs from now??

I’ve had mine on for a little over a year, and it looks the same as it did new. Because it’s made of a mild steel, it will eventually break (what part on your car doesn’t eventually break). The safe #'s for DC headers are 3 years for the ceramic and 5 for the stainless steel; however, these are just safe #'s, and there are plenty of people who have had both cc or ss headers for 7+ years with no problems whatsoever.

I would hold onto your stock EM just in case you need to switch back at any time down the road (selling the car, etc.). Make sure you have good clearance under your car with the new header. My DC 4-2-1 fits flush and couldn’t touch the ground (there’s frae in the way), but some people with large drops have had some problems - basically, don’t dent/grind the collector into the ground

I would suggest checking the ports on the header before install. Most every company isn’t perfect with shaving the ports smoothly, and it’s worth the 30 minutes with a dremel to remedy this, as there are some sloppy bits of metal inside the header here and there.

DC has been making their headers for quite some time, they’ve always been heralded - don’t worry about a thing.

mines…

old, worn, and dead. lol. I am looking into getting a new one, not sure if it will be a DC though. I think I may go greddy and go with a SS this time…the ceramic doesn’t last too long, and it’s true, it cracks and wears real fast and if you hit a dip, you’ll dent the downpipe. It’s a b itch to take care of, but oh well. As mentioned above, in time all things new get old and wear, so it’s really how you take care of it.

I had my DC headers for about 3+ year…sorry to say that theres a crack in the welds. I can see the exhaust fumes leaking which sucks. Getting my hood all dirty. Well im planning to replace them with a brand new one. I hope they will last longer.

do they rust bad?

Damn 3 yrs? Is there a good brand out there that will last for a while?? I also heard I should change my O2 censor when i get it changed anything else (how much is an O2 censor)? Im lowered 2" will I or do any of you bottom out with the headers?

I’d be willing to bet a ceramic DC header will last longer than three years. I’ve heard of many lasting 5-7 years and still going.

I hope so i dont want to go out and spend aout $300 and have to replace it in a couple yrs for that I just get some cheaper one.

So what I’m wondering (after reading all of this) is what they make the stock header out of. I’ve never heard of it cracking or anything like that… why don’t they make the better performance headers out of this material?

The stock exhaust manifold is cast iron, that’s why it weighs so much but never cracks.

I thought the whole deal with getting (after market) headers was that the pipes where bigger and allowed for more air to be pushed out of the engine? Anyeone know whats the weight diffrence on a good pair of headers compred to stock? Cant be more than a few pounds?

My DC header was a good deal lighter than stock. Probably about 10 lbs…

Actually, my exhaust manifold is cracked right now… so I’m looking for either another factory one from the wreckers depending if I can afford a DC Sports one
