Hey guys, I just have a question regarding my deck, an Alpine CDA-7892.
Anyway, my amp wouldn’t turn on the other day when i first hooked it up and started the car to try it out, so i decided to check the remote wire connection at the back of the deck. Pull the deck out, connection seems fine. I decide to tap into the deck’s power wire to see if that will work to get my amp turned on. So i strip some casing off the wire, wrap the remote wire around the exposed part, start the car, still nothing.
I abandoned my efforts, deciding to come back later. I completely forgot to cover the exposed wire with electrical tape. When i come back out later to try again, i moved the deck a little and it just shut off. No loose connections, i checked them all. I think the exposed wire may have touched some metal on the car and grounded out. My question is this: if this is the case, is my deck shot? Thanks for any help and/or suggestions you guys have, it’s greatly appreciated.
Thanks Steven, just checked and that was the culprit. Whew, what a relief. Can’t believe i didn’t think of that before.
If the remote wire isn’t getting power to the amp for some reason, what could i do as an alternative? Do you think i could just run another wire and tap into something in the trunk?

No problem. I’m glad you fixed it, and it was an easy, cheap fix.
I learned my lesson the hard way on that one. My car was out of comission for a week as I searched and replaced everything. It turned out to be a fuse. :bang:

There is one way. You could wire the remote lead up to the ignition wire. The only difference is that if you turn you deck off with the vehicle on, the amp will still be on. But who cares?
