pw0 an pr3 are both 1st gen jdm b16 ecu’s right? Is there any difference between them? If so, which one is better?
same
They are the same. The pr3 was out of the xsi and the pw0 was out of the sir civic/rex.
i dont think pwo came off rex’s…also i dont think pr3’s came off of xsi’s…my friend picked up a ef9 (crx sir)front clip and it came with a pr3 ecu…the pwo usually came from a integra xsi…im not too sure though…can someone clarify it…
but here are the differences:
pr3 ecu: vtec crossover 5800…rev limit set at 8200
pwo ecu: vtec crossover 5800…rev limit set at 7800
those are the differences…

Actually, the differences are:
PR3 - 5000 VTEC x-over, 8300 rev limit
PW0 - 5000 VTEC x-over, 8100 rev limit
Tested out with a SpeedPro system in an EF hatch when we were bored one day. BTW, the auto PR3 also has a 5000 VTEC x-over, but a 7500 rev limit and a weaker fuel curve.
The other main difference, the PR3 ECU can be chipped with chips from Mugen & Spoon, and others that have been custom made from an old-skool Hondata. The PW0 ECU has a Spoon and FEEL’s program, and not really many custom programs since everyone who makes custom programs uses the PR3 ECU. Subtle differences between the two. And NO, the chips between the two are not interchangable with each other.
hey waz up man i have a pr3 ecu and it sid it as froma 5-speed and it revlimits a 7500.and vtec hits at 4800…what the helll…alsoyou said it has aweaker fuel curve…so am i like loosing power???..i need help…how can you tell between a auto pr3 and a 5-speed pr3

for the record. I ahve a B16 with PR3(whoelt hing came outta a Xsi) and it ahs 4900 vtec with 8100 cutoff. my friend has a b16 with PW0 out of a civic sir and it has 4900 vtec and 8100 cutoff as well…
what is with all these different VTEC xovers?!?? i have the pr3 J and i have a 81-8200 fuel cut off(its off the tach, so i can’t tell) and VTEC xover is at 5800-5900. Why would the identical motor from previous generation have such a low xover at 4800 or 5000?
The main difference between the PW0 and the PR3 is that the PW0 is a Non-OBD ECU and the PR3 can be Non-OBD, OBD1 or even OBD2. …and to answer the question about how to tell ebtween Auto and 5 speed ECU’s…an Auto ECU will have the letters ‘AU’ somewhere on the coded sticker whereas the 5 speed will not have this.
Mark
By the way I am sure many of you already know this, but PR4 ECU’s also come in the 92-93 Integra’s OTHER than the GS-R. I have a PR4 in my 93 LS stock (replaced with a JDM P28 w/ a Spoon Program for the new motor).
Just FYI!

PR3 and PW0 are both non OBD…they arent OBD1-2 and never have been…Auto ECU’s and manual’s are determined by the last 3 letters or numbers on identification tag.

hey rsbad454 heres my ecu number …do u think it’s an automatic ecu… : 37820-pr3-003 410-117118 AA
Any B16 powerplant comes with a PR3 ECU…so yes…PR3’s are NON-OBD, OBD1 and OBD2…check any Si you want to…you’ll find a PR3 in it. A Dels Sol comes with the P30.

wrong… the uhh. 89–91 crx/civic sir coems with the PW0
I’m not trying to prove or disprove anything to anyone…nor act like a know-it-all…I’m just passing along info that I have come accross that may help someone…and by the way I wasn’t stating that all B16’s come with PR3’s…I was stating that just about any CIVIC COUPE or Hatch will come wiht a PR3 or P28.
