I have a 91 Integra. Ever since the car was 5000 miles I always had to use about 6 quarts of motor oil / 5000 miles. Now, I have 155,000 miles and the car is running good - no appearant oil leaks. But I am having to put 6-7 quarts within about 5000 miles. I am using fully synthetic oil.
what is that like a quart a month or so? seems somewhat normal. especially since youre running synthetic. apparently it cleans up the gook around the motor and seals which actually helped the regular oil stay inside. and if you drive hard too
yes, about 1 quart every 2 months. Since I drive about 8000 miles a year. So, what most of you are doing is just keep filling the oil until the need to do an oil change ?
Yeah Joe, that’s pretty normal. I figure I’m using about a litre and a half every 2 months. XDE is right, that it cleans out all the junk that was actually helping to seal the engine properly (which is why you ALWAYS break in a new engine with regular oil). So now you are either dripping it out (even undetectable you can lose almost a litre pre month) or burning it off. More likely that you are just burning it off… honda engines tend to do that as they get older… especially ones with 155k miles on them
From my experience, “normal” would be consuming 1 litre of Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic on every oil change (every 5000kms). What steps have you taken to ensure that you are not leaking? Also, I suggest you do a compression and leakdown test. Check your spark plugs if they are being fouled by oil. If you’re not leaking it, you’re burning it, and vice versa.
