do you have a swap? do you like it?

Instead of asking which swap to get, I’m gonna ask what swaps have you done on your car that you don’t like or would have done differently. Does your b16a not have enough torque, does the b20 not have a high enough redline for you? Stuff like that. TIA.

I have a B16A and don’t regret one thing. I knew in advance how different a DOHC VTEC motor is, and completely understood what I was getting into. One correction that I’m making, which I should have done in the first place was go the B17A1 route. Oh well… .

Happy w/ my swap

I’m happy with my B16A setup. I am about to put some more ITR parts into the engine (valvetrain stuff). I like the fact that you can switch out parts with the ITR. I forgot who, Dan I think, said to someone, asking B16A or B18A rebuild, that they’ll like the B16 with an I/H/E setup. I agree with him on that one. The torque loss is not really much of anything. I did not feel much of a difference of torque before and after. Though after the swap–it just seemed faster. With the basic setup with some nice cams, ITRs, Skunks, or even JUNs, and cam gears, the loss of torque will be unnoticable and even way out of the question.

Just my experience with the B16A

My experience with the b16a is that it FEELS faster but is not actually faster. I’ve seen a handful of guys at the track with b16a at best running at best the same times as my stock LS (15.6) .

you are Xtremely correct.

when i had my B16, it seems faster to me because it lacks the torque @ bottom end, then it picks up on the top end with the VTEC…with the B16 i lost few races against B18A/B…

i was happier with my LS motor powered civic hatch , and as for the B20Z…definately a pick:cool:

the LS/VTEC i have is a race engine it runs GOOD and fast, but…every now and then something breaks…axles, clutch (broke last night, not worn…BROKE…burnouts), timing belt just changed, water pump, minor/small leaks, and on and on…(but due to the fact it is the fastest N/A car i have, i luv it)

so i am taking it in monday FOR A FULL tune up…to make it run good…

i found myself driving my other car more often…and i want to make my teg a daily driven car…

my ls/vtec is generated from a rebuilt ls motor:mad: …

i would rather u get the B20 or B18C1…i would only recommend 1.6L motors to civic hatch guys…even though my B16 swap wuz in a civic hatch.

that is my opinion

I had a b16a motor for 1.5 years. It was a lot of fun. I ran the motor pretty hard for a while and ended up blowing the head. I think it was definitely worth the money that was put into it.

I’m putting in a 97 LS motor and a T3/T4 custom intercooled turbo kit. I think this setup will be very stable and have good upgrade path, for more boost, in the future.

Good luck on which ever path you take…
