Ok so I have a B16A 1st gen (1989) in my 1991 Teg. I have an automatic computer and a 5 speed tranny. It failed emission. Any of you guys in Ontario had problems like this with passing smog. If you did and you passed after can you let me know what you did, what need to be changed etc…
I’ll see if I can get my cousin to contact my old mechanic. He used to be able to pass the smog test for you with some ahem “special tricks”
He’s in Mississauga, BTW.
Unfortunately, the Civic SiR 88-91 model was never available here, because your car would go under that name since you have the engine. Have you tried maybe applying as a Honda 94 Civic Del-Sol VTEC? Also, can you provide some details as to how much you actually failed and what?
Thanks,
Oz
Well here’s the numbers
ASM2525
HC ppm limit 86, result 125
CO% limit 0.48 result 2.19
NO ppm limit 984 result 60
CURB IDLE
HC ppm limit 200 result 248
CO% limit 1.00 result 1.31
The guy who did the emissions said something about the speed increasing and decreasing at the same throttle level and that maybe cuz i have an automatic computer that might screw up readings
according to the ministry of trasportation, any car that has a motor that was not made in that model of car is a hotrod and is therefor exempted, you have a civic motor in an integra its should be considered a hotrod., look it up on the web, the MTO site
ok I managed to pass eventually after installing a (no joke) 8 pound catalytic convertor and playing around with the machine for about an hour. Now it sucks: my car has no power…I think I’ll put my old cat back and just keep this one for emissions.
