engine blew

I bought my 92 gs used with around 110k on it and the paperwork showed that the timing belt was changed at 90k. Well…it hadent and the other night while driving on the highway my car in 5th gear just lost power. I pulled over to the side of the road and had it towed to a service place. Turns out that all my valves are bent and the head of the engine is done too.
The service center told me i could either get the valves machined and replace the head or i could get a new engine. But they want to give me an engine outa a teg with 85k on it.
What should i do? get a new engine, get the thing machined and replace key parts, or get a whole new car (which i dont have the cash to do)
Plz help.

:frowning:

always get a second quote! but if you trust this place find out it my cheaper and less of a hasle to drop anew engine it ! make sure you het your old one or if they keep it give you some kind of core charge!

ps second i would chop that guy in the Throat for lying to you about changing the timing belt;)

for a everyday driving…check out online stores with DOHC nonVtec motors…

or also for everyday driving you can get a B16A long block for less than a grand…(same amount you might end up spending on a head…(BUT, this time you will have a JDM motor with about 46K)

c what i am saying

Just change the head! Its ALOT cheaper. I’m sure you could probably acutally do all the work too. I would find a b18b head and just swap out sicne your bottom end is ok. I would think it would cost you about 500 including labor. If you find the head yourself plan on spending about 200 max. You can fit either a b18a, b18b, b20b, or b20z head on it with no prob. I acutally have a b20 head too for sale. Email me if ur interested. You can put a vtec head on it too, but that will take longer and more moola. Good luck man!

i think it all depends on what you want to do to your car. your head problems could be a blessing in disguise, it could your reason to throwing in the VTEC motor you’ve been wanting, or if you wanted to keep the LS, since the head is already off get a new one port n polish den throw in pistons, rods, etc. hopefully you get my drift.

if your valves are bent you can’t throw a head on it b/c the reason your valves are bent is cause they hit the piston which i would think they got pretty chewd up

Usually the pistons are pretty strong so althrough you might have a lot of bent valves it usually won’t hurt the top of the pistons.

you can get 1st gen b16 long blocks for 450.00, plus shipping:phttp://nippon-motors.com/
