an XS engineering chip will mod the ecu with 8500 rpm redline and modded fuel map
the head will be ported and polished
the intake valves will be enlarged from 31mm to 33 mm (still researching this one)
AEM cam gears
JG custom grind cams.
dual valve springs (havent decided on which ones yet)
i’m building a custom Intake manifold and billit TB.
I’m a little curious why you are resleeving too? Probably not neccessary for an NA application. But if you do, I’d do what Josh said and overbore to increase displacement.
Also, have you given much thought to crower cams instead of JG? I don’t have any experience w/ either but it seems most people favor crower for quality. It seems like you are dropping some serious caash on this project so that would be just a tad more. Big deal:)
Sounds like it is gonna be a beefy engine. The 8500 RPM redline may not really be neccesary. I don’t even think there are any LS cams that make HP at that high of a rev.
the guy i got the block from left it outside. so the cylinders are rusty… also, its been bored once already so it has to be resleeved… and. one cylinder is messed up…
i have been thinking of the bigger sleeves, however, then i’d have to get bigger pistons, and i wanna save a lil cash right now… i’ll get sleeves that can be bored bigger but are at 81mm right now. this way i can use these b16 pistons. eventually i’ll go with some JE pistons.
the rev limit on the chip is at 8500, i have no choice in the matter there. i can set my own rev limit later with MSD.
the guy i got these cams from told me they idle very rough… that he had to do some tweeking of the TB to get it to idle. if what he says is true, they’re pretty radical cams.
Dan (g2guru) measured them for me, the cams have 1mm lift over stock. he says that about the same amount as the toda b’s over the ITR cam.
i’m a college student so i spend a lil cash here, a lil cash there and eventually get my motor together…
i have a stock b18a in my car now with the bolt ons… so its not like i have to have the engine RIGHT NOW. i’m willing take the time to do it right.
i’ve been toying with the idea of yanking out my block in the car and wait to sleeve the other one some other day.
Yeah…the block needs to be resleeved. It was my old LS block. It was already bored 25 over and Cylinder 4 has some sleeve damage.
The JG cams seemed pretty beefy. But I too pushed for Crowers. Hopefully Richard, those cams work out for you. If not, let me know and I’ll try to track down that guy for you. Did you ever contact JG?
hey Dan, thanks for the reply,
got a few ??? for ya…
that guy told me 10 and 8 for the valve adjustments… what exactly did he mean?
10/8 thousands or what? that would be like .010 and .080 or???
and do u think i could get away with trying the cams on stock motor? to see how they’d work?? or would i be better off just installing them in that extra head i got and work the head first?

I think the guy meant .008 for intake and .010 for exhaust.
That sounds kinda high to me but then again I don’t have experience with these cams.
