Here’s the story:
- the engine was running fine, but the cv joints were gone…
- I replaced the halfshafts, and did a valve adjustment at the same time.
- on the test drive, it started running like crap, it would idle down to < 100 rpms… and the tach would bounce.
- we popped the hood, and started pulling spark plug wires to see if it was related to a specific cylinder, but then the car died completely and wouldn’t start.
- I had to replace the ignition coil to get the car running again but the tach still bounced after the car warmed up…
- I disconnected the IAC valve and adjusted the idle to ~800 rpms and put the dielectric grease on the igniter contacts
- that was last night, the car is now idling at ~500 - 600 rpms, and it the tach still moves around a little bit…
- also, the engine seems to hiss and run louder than it did before
