Engine setup possibility

I got a quote from a local shop for the following:
B16 head/trans/ECU
B18 bottom end
JE pistons
Total seal rings
new head gasket
external oil line
Crower rods

By selling off the parts not used from the B16 & B18, I’d get the package (pre-auto/manual swap) for around $1500 + $1500 for labor.

Good choice over just a plain B18C swap?

Jeff,

Well, I think a straight B18C1 swap would be better. But if you do go with the LS/VTEC setup, here’s a couple of things…

Know that JE pistons have a high silicon content and make a bit of noise until the motor is warmed up. Even when it’s warmed up it will still be louder than stock. Kind of irritating really.

Do not use total seal piston rings. If you do buy JEs, use the file fit rings that come with the JEs.

But I seriously think you would be better off getting a B18C1 and dropping it in yourself. Run you about the same amount of money. Best of luck and let me know if you need anything else. Later.
