I finally installed the b16a this weekend! I must say it was a pain in the @$$ at some parts but it was well worth it. The ITR cams paid off too Always puts a smile on my face when those cams x-over to VTEC and then shift at 8k…aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh
This is not a biased option on the b16a or anything…just had to express my excitement Peace out.
It’s sweet. The thing I like the most is how the gears feel. They’re shorter than the LS and it just feels nice. As far as power, I think it packs quite a punch. VTEC kicks in pretty hard with the ITR cams. Overall, I like the engine and have no regrets.
That’s what I said when I swapped in a b16 a year ago, I have no regrets and l like it, but you still get those people downplaying the motor you know.

A little as far as 3500-5500. I mean when I floored it at 4500 with my LS, cams etc… It feels like when I floor my b16 at 5700 when vtec hits. I mean, both are good motors, but you have to feel both motors in optimum conditons you know to tell the difference. I dont think it’s as bad as some might say. They just launch a little lower and I launch at 5500. Between shifts, I go no lower than 6100rpm where my power starts.
It’s not hardly anything like people make it out to be. Take in consideration your i/h/e and anything else (cams, etc). Those’ll make up some torque and you can’t really tell. In my case, I can’t hardly tell. It seems like I’m driving my normal ol’ b18 but have a lot more power
With the b16a there is notable low torque loss over the b18a. My Integra b16a has stainless steel headers, 2.5" cat-back exhaust, to an OBX high flow muffler. I picked up a set of AEM cam gears and after some tuning you can add a lot of torque in the low rpms. (+2 intake -1.5 exhaust, if you’re curious)
The b16a is highly recommended. The HP on the top end makes up for any torque loss. Once you get used to shifting at 8000 rpm, it’s hard to keep your foot out of the gas.
hey, i see that you have ITR cams… did you upgrade your valve train at all? some people say there is no point in getting ITR cams without the valve train
here’s some of what i’ll be doing to my b16a, lemme know if you think it’s enough to make up the torque loss.
b16a block honed/bored .25 over
JDM ITR .25 over pistons (~10.6)
rods shotpeened/milled to fit ITR pistons
full portflow head (p/p, stainless oversized valves, 3-angle, springs, ti retainers)
ITR Intake Manifold/TB
ITR Flywheel lightened to 12.5 pounds
80-shot (maybe more hehe) direct port.
Keep in mind that’s some of what i’m building. I’m not worried about time, I’ve got till the end of May to finish it. I think that’ll help make up that torque loss, eh?
