I currently have a Cat back Borla exhaust made from muffler shop piping and a universal Borla muffler with no resonator. It’s okay but it doesn’t sound all that great usually. Its fairly quiet too. I want a deeper/nicer sound and more power is always good. What should I do? I’m thinking of getting a different muffler but I don’t know which one to get. Also, what would a resonator do? Thanks.
One more strange thing about my exhaust: When the exhaust is cold it makes a nasty high pitched raspy sound when it is revved to around 3800 rpm. A few minutes of driving (but longer than until the temp gauge is up to normal) the nasty sound goes away. What is causing this?
That nasty sound is caused by not having a resonator. Get a good resonator installed, and see how you like the new sound. You may not need to buy a new muffler.
Put on a freeflow cat as well you will know a significant power gain, and the noise will be loud when you rev hard.
I do have a new cat on there. I’m not sure what type it is. My old one was broken so it was more of a repair than an upgrade.
