Finally have Vortech pics

I would also recomend what DAY U IZ is talking about. If you put a catch can inline with the pvc you will catch all of the oil vaper that would normaly be fed into your intake. By doing this you can safely boost about 3psi more with no detotion.

Just wondering, how does a catch can allow you to boost higher without detonation?

I did several posts about the catch can pcv system. I have it done on my car. You can find the posts in the “pictures pictures pictures…” post on the Forced Induction forum. It allows you to run more boost because it seperates out the oil vapor which has a very low octane , low octane = detonation as you know

I don’t see a problem with running the pcv exit into the intake charge pre-turbo. It’s not like it’s injesting a quart of oil per minute or anything.

Gotcha. Here is the link Haberdasher was referring to http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13155

Wow, awesome setup man. What’s under the hood? Is than a b18c5 or just the valve cover? Got any 1/4 mile times/dynos?

Looks sweet though…

And like his name implies he’s got a GS-R and a stock internal B17a!

I believe MojoGSR has this done and did a write up. A search will bring it up for ya.

It wasn’t me, but maybe you were thinking of the vacuum diagram I did for the new 2nd gen B16A into a DA. That doesn’t really tell you much more than a factory helms manual as far as custom vacuum routing goes. Sorry I can’t be more help.

As for B17Vortech’s vehicle, that is one fantastic ride. Just doing a B17A to B16A swap was hectic enough for me. I can’t imagine all of the custom fabrication, time, and engineering work that went into doing that. Just out of curiousity, have you swapped motors before, or what other merits do you have towards your mechanical ability? Just curious. Nice job on the car!

where are u putting your battery ? or are u bump starting everytime?

absolutly breathtaking :inlove:

alan90gs-itr his battery has been relocated to the back of the car.

what did he mod to get the sc to fit?

badass… good luck with it man…

the problem is that the intake charge does not generate near enough vacuum for your catch can setup to work. just look at your hose catch can leading back to your intake. it is spotless, and if you think that is because the catch can has filtered out 100% of the oil from the blowby, you’re wrong. even with a proper catchcan setup, oil vapors (to a much smaller extent) will still make it back to the intake if working correctly.

Have you inspected my setup qwkteg125? No, you haven’t. So how can you say my setup doesn’t work? Would you like to come over and watch me empty the catch can? It’s been 4 months since I emptied it last, we would get out a few ounces of crud. You don’t think there is enough air volume going through the intake when under boost to generate vacuum? How do you think the OE setup works? If this doesn’t work…what would you suggest?

The bottom line is that this does work…

no doubt the can still has oil in it. i’m not debating that. the can will fill regardless of whether you are running closed loop or open loop. i was just saying that once the vapors reach the can, they are not leaving via the vacuum generated by the minimal suction generated by the pre-turbo air filter. you need strong vacuum in order to do that (ie 550mmHg from your intake manifold at idle). my observations are based on the pictures you posted, seeing how clean & oil-free your second hose that leaves the catchcan is.

if you don’t believe me, try this as a test:
hook up one hose leading from your valve cover to your catchcan. hook up the other hose from the factory oil separator to the catchcan. put a filter on the top of the catchcan where your pcv valve currently is. then see if any oil vapors accumulate.

I see that you installed a “baby K&N” filter on your valve cover vent. If you leave it this way for a long time, eventually the unvented blowby can and/or will take away from the life of your piston rings. Don’t ask me how I know!

This [open crankcase=ruin piston rings] rumor seems to be spreading. View a stock intake and intake breather tube, it has no slash cut or angle(neutral ventilation) and functions the same as a “baby K&N” on the valve cover.

As for the pcv valve, AT WOT THE PCV VALVE CLOSES, leaving the only source of ventilation at the valve cover. So in a performance standpoint, and open loop will give more constant ventilation.

Where did you buy it from? About how much was it with after cooler?

k, i’m gonna ask this again, what did he mod to get the sc to fit?

awsome install man!!! hey, what is this catch can you guys are talking about? i just put a little breather filter on my valve cover, because there was some oily residue getting in the intake. is it better to run the silicone hose from the valve cover to the intake like it was originaly?
thanks
