FITV leaking coolant!

I’m leaking coolant from my FITV. At first I thought it was just the hoses that run to the valve, but I replaced them already. Now it looks like it’s still leaking. Has anyone seen this before?

this is a 92 RS with stock b18a

Thanks,
Steve

nobody?

what about bypassing the valve so that there’s no coolant flowing to it. Will it really effect my idle? I’ve heard mixed reviews.

well, where exactly is it leaking from…?
did u put the clamps back on the hoses after u replaced them?

I can’t tell exactly . . .see the pic below. It looks like it’s either leaking from around the hose (that’s why I changed them) or from the seal (other arrow). I put new worm type clamps in place of the old stock ones and made sure they were tight. Maybe I should recheck and make sure they are tight???

Thanks,
Steve

I figured it out! The damn thing is cracked! Now I need a new FITV

What does FITV stand for? Is that a picture of a thermostat valve?

Gracias

Fast Idle Thermo Valve (FITV).

Nonsense, im having the exact same problem, i replaced the cracked heater hose, no more leak, but my engine overheats like a bitch still. im in the process of taking everything apart now to check. maybe i have the same thing that happened to you. but i also have a bit of white smoke comming out of my exhaust. ive read everything about smoke colors and what they mean, but will having coolant mixed with oil really shorten my engines lifespan significantly? it really doesnt matter though, im gettin rid of the b18a1 soon enough. right now my car is in the garage, it starts up fine, but with a high idle at normal operating temp, around 1500rpms. any ideas on what to check first, so i dont waste much time. the water pump will be the last thing i check.

i think your problem could be like mine. I got the high idling at 1500rpm too. My timing is way advanced though but it could be your problem too. I replaced my FITV with a sealer around the o-ring so it would not leak and sometimes my idle is at 1250. Im still not sure what the problem really is though, but ill keep it posted…

Mine is weird . . . when the car was sitting on level ground it wouldn’t leak at all. When I put the car on the driveway at an incline it would leak like crazy. But when driving it would leak a lot, I drive less than 4 miles to work and the cooant level would be down by about a quart!

As for your problem, maybe you overheated it when it was leaking, and ruined the head gasket. At worst the head could be warped. That’s why there’s white smoke and water in the oil (probably oil in coolant too). This will ruin a set of bearings pretty fast and the head leak will probably get worse. If you’re just getting rid of the b18a anyway I would just drive it till it dies.

it probably did since i was driving when i sprung the leak. i do plan to drive it till it dies. i just have to fix the high idle first, just keeps overheating. gonna check my thermo today, hopefully that is the problem, along with many others…if i had a head leak, would there be visible signs to tell if i was leaking oil?

there would be white smoke (steam) coming from the exhaust. If you open the oil cap and there’s milky brown looking crap in there that’s from water being mixed in with the oil. If you open the radiator cap and the same crap is in there oil is getting into the cooling system. This indicates a bad head gasket, crackedhead, or warped head.

yup yup, thats what i got. engine is now for sale.
