Alright here’s the deal…lately…there has been a loud screeching type noise coming from the front passenger side wheel…most noticeably it occurs after the car has been sitting overnight…or for a few hours…it tends to make a loud (though not terribly high pitched) screeching noise when the car begins to move…
however…it ALWAYS happens if i am on a slight hill and start to roll back a little bit (car is 5spd)…and then when i start to move forward as well…
i went outside a little while ago…and right now my car is on jacks…w/ the wheel pulled off…i then took off the caliper to check the pads…which are actually about 50% worn…the rotors i know are in bad shape and i could use some new ones…
BUT…when i went to take off the caliper…it was very difficult to slide it off the rotor…i took off the brake resevoir cap and to relieve some pressure…but it was still hard
now my question is…what could possibly be making the noise…and how can i tell if my caliper is frozen or seizing?
i also checked around the area…no cracks in anything…doesnt appear any bolts are loose…no metal rubbing on metal…
i did that…the piston went back in fine…and i put the cap back on the reservoir…and then pumped the brakes…and the piston came back out…so it seems as if thats fine…
but then…what the hell could the problem be?
i checked all the boots…none were cracked…doesnt seem to be anything out of place…ie metal hitting metal
well i think i got it…when my sister came home…i had her sit in the car and roll the car backwards while i listened…turns out…it was coming from the rear…my brakes are shot back there…pads and rotors…looks like i gotta have those done tomorrow…damn it…
must have been the whole idea of “sound traveling forward” that must have made the sound as if it was coming from the front
DOOD!! Do that yourself. You can get good pads for 25-35 and that all it will cost. Hell, if youre gonna take it somewhere, I’ll do it at my house for $15 heh
