Okay, so i replaced my fuel tank at the end of 2025, and ever since then my fuel gauge does not read at all. It would read the correct fuel level before i replaced the tank. I verified that the fuel sending unit was still working correctly with a multimeter, and was measuring the correct resistance, since it is the only thing i reused from the old tank. I replaced the pump and everything else. In an effort to diagnose the problem, i pulled the sending unit out of the tank and plugged it in to the harness, while out of the tank. What’s weird is that when the sending unit is in the empty position, the fuel light is on. When i move it to where it would be if the tank was full, instead of moving the fuel gauge, it controls how bright the fuel light is. I tested this multiple times and the light will get dimmer and dimmer, until the sending unit is in the full position, and then it shuts the light off. I’ve made sure that the sending unit isn’t getting stuck when in the tank, and all of the wires are in good condition. I guess what I’m asking is, is it possible that the fuel pump harness that is connected to the pump, was pinned incorrectly at the connector for the sending unit. It is the only thing that makes sense and the only thing i can think of, as to why the brightness of the fuel light is controlled by the sending unit, and that the needle never moves. If anyone has ran into this issue, please help before I lose my mind.
That’s … different.
Have you already checked the wiring diagram for how this thing works (wire colors etc.) i.e. the Helms?
When I was reading your description, I instantly thought it was an improper pin issue or maybe a wire shorting somewhere.
Believe it or not, the connector to the sending unit was actually pinned incorrectly. Had to make some jumper wires out of some 14g and some spade terminals, but it does read fuel level now. Worked parts for 4 years and never seen anything like that happen to customers, much less myself. Be sure to check those wires if your replacing a pump I guess lol.
That’s crazy! Glad you figured it out!
Glad its functioning again. Pretty sure there are some aftermarket conversion harnesses out there for hondas that are also pinned incorrectly from the manufacturer, and it’s so bad that forum guides point out repinning as one of the steps lol
I’m glad you made this thread, because I can imagine I’ve been in situations where the new product I purchased isn’t functioning correctly, and can’t figure out why. I need to consider this.
I’m wondering if this is why I can’t get the damn EGR to work.
