g2 gsr harness on g2 ls? yes/no

Will a g2 gsr engine wiring harness work in an ls, because i was told no before but then in the swap instructions it says to use a vtec wiring harness like off a b18c, why if this harness works wont a gen 2 vtec harness. anyways if it dont work drop me the reasons why… thanks alot guys

No… .

elmer, i thought you had told me that it was possible. remember, i gotta make a 92 gsr wiring harness work in my 91.

i need as much info as you got.
thanks.

yeah give us all the info you got on why not! please

help us out man let us no why this wont work out…
cause right out of the teg tips it says

• Wiring harness-The non-OBD B16A harness has the cream colored plugs, which will not work with your OBD-1 gray plug car. So you will need to use your gray plug harness from your B18A1 or buy an OBD-1 (gray plug) VTEC harness (92-95 B17A, Del Sol B16A, B18C1). Any one of these harnesses will plug into everything on the motor except for the distributor and injectors. If you use your B18A1 harness, you will need to add the 3 wires for VTEC, and another wire for the knock sensor.

Sorry guys… I should have clarified. Say you have a 1992 LS. The GSR engine harness will not plug up to the LS chassis harness. Some of the sensors are routed a different way when comparing an LS chassis harness to a GSR chassis harness. I know Dan’s swap guide says that any DOHC VTEC harness will work, but I have compared the 92-93 GSR harness to my LS harness and it will not plug up. EXAMPLE: There are two plugs on the drivers side of an LS for the engine harness. A GSR has only one.

The 94-95 GSR harness or 94-95 Del Sol VTEC have the same problems, these engine harnesses don’t mate to LS chassis harnesses. One obvious thing to note on the 94-95 Del Sol VTEC and GSR harness is the location of the MAP sensor plug. It’s on the engine harness itself while the G2 OBD1 Integra MAP sensor has its own harness on the chassis.

Even if you could use the engine harness from a B18C, you would still have to wire up VTEC, Knock, and IAB since a G2 LS Integra does not have wiring for this on the chassis harness leading to the ECU. Since this is the case, it is cheaper and easier to just use your LS harness and add the necessary wiring. It really isn’t that hard.

Colin, stick to the original plan that we discussed originally. Sorry to scare you there buddy.

alright, all that seems to make sense.

i’m starting to become more aware of the different harnesses. So, there is an engine wiring harness, and a chasis wiring harness?

And i’m gonna need to use the gsr engine wiring harness, as well as the chasis wiring harness? Elmer, do you have any idea if this will be a basic “plug ‘n’ play” swap? What i mean is, can i just pull the old harnesses and swap in the new one? Or am i gonna have to do a lot of splicing and rewiring?

sorry for all the questions elmer, i hope you don’t mind. But really you’re the only guy i’ve found so far that knows anything about this stuff, so hopefully you’re not terribly annoyed yet! lol. Oh, and if you have any online (or elsewhere) sources that i could look up some reading material i’d greatly appreciate it.

thanks
colin

very nice man thanks alot i thought it would have something to do with the chassis harness, haha why dont you get someone to change the teg tips it sounds so easy;) thanks for all your help and i am sure i will have a ton more questions verysoon as i am pickin up my swap in two weeks so keep a lookout:shy: thanks

Colin,
I’m fairly sure that the underdash/chassis harness is fairly plug and play. From my trips under the dash of my car and a friends car, most of the plugs are similar. I’m fairly sure that the amount of splicing and cutting will be minimal, especially since you have a donor car.

Hmm… reading material? Most of my experience comes from asking friends or the Helms manual. You’re not going to find a lot of resources on underdash rewiring or anything like that.

thanks again elmer. Well, as it stands now the plan is to pick up the donor car in about 2 weeks, then i get to dive in and see exactly what i’m dealing with!
